All of CityPlace and adjacent areas are just acres of monotonous blue glass structure. For a city that wanted to makes it's Waterfront more appealing west of Yonge they seem to be going out of their way to make it as architecturally sterile as humanely possible.

That "boat", is actually a ship.

(just giving you a hard time.)

Spent half a day downtown winnipeg yesterday. Such a neat downtown...although a little small. Great old buildings and I like how it isn't on a grid and is all haphazard. Exchange district was neat. Forks was...different. I'm sure it's much better when it's not minus 20. Sorry iPhone photo.

Also here's an oldieof view from my condo in Cityplace. I agree that architecture is a bit blah but I love living there. Close to the water and close to downtown. Field is always packed with dogs and people playing sports. Once new retail opens in the Quartz and spectra the area will be even more lively. Torontonians just hates cityplace because they like hating things.

Great Hamilton angle!

I also like the last Calgary shot.Kudos.How challengingis it to get good angles of Calgary's skyline?
Seems like all the shots one here come out real clear and un-obstructed. Lot of great shots anyways.

Downtown Calgary sits on a floodplain and is surrounded by hills or bluffs on all sides, so you can get a photo from just about any angle you want. It's a bit tricky finding angles that haven't been covered.

The great missing Calgary angle IMO is from the north at a distance. You can't get a view of Calgary from the north comparable to Chad's Mount Royal pic above, the only way to view from the north is being right up close to downtown on the hill at Crescent Heights. Next best thing is from SAIT at the NW which might be my favourite angle, it came up in this thread not too long ago.

There's a Mount Royal in Calgary? No wonder you guys are always arguing with Montreal. Both want to claim the one true Mount Royal.

A good angle to see EAP from. The beltline stooges need some things to bridge the gap from that angle.

Montreal's is taller. Calgary's is denser though.

Mount Royal (divided into "Upper" and "Lower") is among the oldest communities in Calgary, originally settled around 1906 along the then-southern edge of the city (ie. anywhere South of 17th Avenue SW and West of 4th Street SW, back then "Notre Dame Ave" and "Broadway Street"). It was initially a mansion district oriented around Royal Ave, settled by American business elites, and dubbed "American Hill," until Canadian Pacific registered the Mount Royal District subdivision plan with the city in 1907. If you go up the hill, you can find such streets as Frontenac Ave, Montcalm Crescent, Wolfe Street, Montreal Ave, Carleton Street, Dorchester Ave, Cabot Street, etc.

LMR is now largely covered by apartments and is primarily younger renters and graduates, while UMR is mostly single family homes built and is primarily wealthy middle-age families. They are both covered by a single community association, though it is heavily represented by people from the Upper district.

Note: Mount Royal University is not nearby Mount Royal. Also, Mount Royal here is the name of the community, not the hill that it sits on (I'm actually unaware if the hill has a formal name).

There's always been a Mount Royal in Calgary, it's like a 110 year old neighbourhood. Lower Mount Royal is one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods on the prairies with 11 000/km2. We also have Mount Royal University, with 25 000 students, over a century old.
