It was silly to have two Architects on the project. These boards of education just don't get it. The whole reason they were forced to build together was to have shared services, to get the biggest bang for the buck for tax payers. One of the weird things living in Willowgrove was when I bought the property developer ask which school board I wanted to pay taxes to. I ended up with the public one, being catholic but growing up in Vancouver and attending a public school I appreciated the value that comes from a culturally diverse education. Now live back in BC where you don't get to pick where you send your education tax.

It's a big enough deal that the Catholic school board agreed to share a "space" with the public division. The idea was floated long before TDCI/Bethlehem were built, just never acted on because the Catholic school board wanted to remain separate. They should've chose the same architect, though. But I guess they can't agree on everything.

It's my understanding that the new schools will be at least this big.

Willowgrove was a tough school to build foundation wise. I really hope the new p3 schools will have a more basic design.

Crazy to think all the schools start at the same time. I'd imagine it will strain some local trades and bring some out of province ones in as well.

Very likely to be a major issue. This was one of many topics that the Saskatchewan Construction Association and affiliated member organizations raised with SaskBuilds during the consultation with industry regarding the bundled P3 Schools.

Tradespeople are a finite resource and having this much work going through the "pipeline" at once, as well as some other major institutional projects (Saskatoon Civic Operations Centre, Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford and the new Children's Hospital) is going to present a challenge to the execution of all commercial/institutional projects underway over the next two years. The softening of trade pricing that has been recently experienced will likley disappear.

Not to mention the Civil trades being eaten up by the Regina Bypass and other road construction.

Scuttlebutt is that the Station Place won't be around too much longer. I don't have any further information if it's just the business or the building being gone too. Shame to waste those railcars, though.

I'd be very surprised to hear the Station Place shutting down, unless they got some sort of huge offer on the land location.

This could be just a part of the re-inventing of the S'toon restaurant scene. With so many new options opening, it wouldn't surprise me to see the 'old standbys' disappear. Not saying that is a good thing, just wouldn't surprise me.

Didn't they just renovate?? I seem to recall seeing a sign out front eluding to that??

Are the railcars in Station Place authentic? If they are, I'd love to see them go to the Western Development Museum. I'm sure they can find some use for them.

They would go to Moose Jaw if that was the case, as that is the ones that deals with Transportation.

Really hope that isn't the case. That place is reliably good. It must rake in a ton of dough I would imagine.

The lounge car was my first stop for wing night when I landed in S'toon 16 years ago, fond memory. Took my young son to the restaurant side last year because he wanted desperately to eat in the train car - such a stuffy atmosphere, not really appropriate for kids but the old folks in there seemed to enjoy his presence and the energy he brought to the place. The food was actually quite good and priced much better than I would have thought. Would like to see a change to the place but not see the railcars go.

my hope is that they are relocated and used in another restaurant setting - it is a very unique place

Station Place has gone downhill (except their prices) in the last five years. I don't know anyone who lives in Saskatoon who still eats there if they have a choice. I'm in the under-40 crowd, though. Out-of-towners still seem to like it.

The only issue would be transporting them there. They would have to be moved by truck... I talked to the director of the museum a few years ago and IIRC almost every railcar they have there came down the spur line they are situated on, but sections of the spur line have since been removed and it's no longer connected to any rail networks? (I could have misunderstood him).

Keeping these railcars downtown would be very nice too!
