I grudgingly accept the heritage value of the Calgary Tower. However, the fact that we're speaking to socio-economic history rather than anything to do with architectural history says something... it's an artifact of the time when Calgary was basically Regina with big dreams.
The CN Tower in Edmonton is an infinitely better example of midcentury modern design that also happens to be a clear statement of upwardly mobile civic ambition.
