Am I correct in thinking that they are only proceeding with the one, taller tower at this time?

I wouldn't mind seeing the residential towers scrapped, prow or not. This hodge-podge belongs in Burnaby

Some of the Burnaby towers look much cleaner than Vancouver ones...
Brentwood and Aviara...

This is kind of how I feel. I feel like I have to like it because it seems like everyone else does, and it is tall, but it just seems so boring. I've never liked honeycomb designs, so I don't like Vancouver House either.

According to changingcitybook.com, that's correct. And the latest model seems to be consistent with that approach. But it's the first that I have heard about it being developed in phases.

Seriously, I don't think it is an easy feat for a condo with lots of balconies to look good, and yet buyers are obsessed with balconies. Removing all those interlacing balconies would make this condo look way nicer, but that's not going to happen.

I drool over the tower's height.

As far as I know, exterior balconies are a City zoning requirement.

I don't mind balconies, I just think they could be integrated better. I actually quite like Toronto-style condos and the way they do balconies: obviously One Bloor is a bit too expensive for Vancouver, but I like the bottom half of Aura too. Brentwood One is nice as well. I know most people think these are really generic, but when it comes to condos I like these more minimalist designs. Just a personal thing. Burrard Place is certainly a great addition to the area and I'm glad it's happening, but I'm not wowed by it either.

Imagine the exact design of Wave but 56 floors to replace the Burrard Gateway tower. I'm sure many forumers won't be very impressed with it too.

Agreed. The only way to really hide those balconies would be to make the building rectangular and symmetrical, but then again, something like that built downtown won't impress anyone.

Thanks for bringing up the Residences at Hotel Georgia! Again, I've heard a lot of other people dislike it but I think it's a masterpiece. Best example of balcony integration in Vancouver, and one of my favourite buildings in the city of any kind.

I really like the look of this tower, and the office tower.

Personally I would never buy a condo that does not have a balcony. To me that is one of the largest benefits of living in a high tower.

Living on the 30th or so floor with no balcony is akin to those people who have a single detached home but then cement over their entire front yard...
