Sad that this long delayed project is delayed yet again, even if its just a few months. Of course, it would be less painful if Burquitlam Station opens at Fall 2015 instead of Fall 2016....

I took the WCE yesterday, had to go to Coquitlam after work.
Looks like the guideway is coming along everywhere except a 100m area or so near falcon avenue. They are still leveling the grade and preparing for the base of the guideway.

That's probably the area where the switches will be leading to the Vehicle Storage Facility? They tend to add extra reinforcement around switch areas.

True enough.
That's why they went with cut and cover for Canada Line - it provided multiple working faces to mitigate against possible delays.
I suppose the delay has eaten into whatever buffer they had in the schedule, too.

While you're at it, maybe they could open Port Moody to Lafarge at Spring 2016 too

But how do you get the trains from Burquitlam to PoMo if the tunnel isn't ready?

I know!
Barge-Train!
In the morning, just roll the trains onto a barge at Waterfront, and float them up to PoMo, and roll them onto the tracks there.
Barge them back to Waterfront at night so the trains can get back to Edmonds for overnight maintenance.

As of yesterday, this video from BCNEWSVIDEO shows that there are 7 sections left to go on Pinetree Way.

Nah...

All they would have to do take one of the Mark I train sets, and run them all 1-car on the disconnected part of the line. Maybe even run them manually if the computer system isn't setup to be able to run without the missing tunneled section. I assume it should be able to be run like that... what if there was ever a tunnel fire or collapse? I'm just thinking that it would be missing the communication infrastructure near the tunnel, so the stations closest to the tunnel would have no way for the train to "turn back."

Then for maintenance they just'd put them on a truck. That's what the TTC did AFAIK. The Port Moody station is supposed to be at-grade. The Mark I's are easier to de-couple than the Mark II's.

Though realistically, there's no point in running it before it's complete, because it would entail extra costs. It would only be worth doing for some kind of photo-op/ribbon-cutting stage (which would have to be done at Burquitlam station to show it "working") and even then, it would be embarrassing to have it incomplete.

The main issue with running trains to Burquitlam early is the lack of traction power along the guideway. There's a propulsion substation being constructed at Lougheed, but the next one is right at the south tunnel portal. It won't be safe to energize the guideway between the two substations until the tunnel boring is done.

All trains must be composed of married pairs of cars.
Single cars are missing half of the electronics needed to run on the tracks.

<snip>
7 segments suggests 28-35 days to completion.
Gantry crane gone by mid March?

I drove by and noticed the gantry crane will be positioned above Glen Drive and start lifting segments sometime today. The segments are on trucks lined up along Pinetree way. This will be the last road crossing for the elevated guideway.

Thanks for the update. I drove by this afternoon and they have lifted up all the segments up for the section above Glen Drive, and were positioning them to fit together. Only 5 sections to go until it meets the steel guideway!

I remember reading that they will be installing lighting elements in the guideway columns in those grooves - seems odd to be doing median work before that is installed?

I'd have a good laugh if the landscaping was only on the Coquitlam half while sourpuss Corrigan's side remained as rough backfill. It would be ugly, but I'd have a good laugh for a little while.

Driving by on North Rd. the other day, I noticed that the landscaping really made the entire site look way more polished and refined - North Rd actually seemed to look better than before all the construction even started.
