We thought there may have been something today, since AC released its financials. Nothing so far though...

CBC report on noise complaints since the new runway opened, and YVR style they have a single person making 300-400 complaints a month!

http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/calgary/...ng-addressed-says-spokesperson-1.2953818

Have our ATC'ers heard about this?

Quote:
Moseley said Nav Canada will oversee a change to the flight paths of YYC aircraft starting in April. Nav Canada must first publish the change in its documentation for everyone who uses the airport traffic system.

"What we're trying to do is get aircraft to go a little bit higher and a little bit straighter, and that really keeps them as close to industrial paths as possible," she said.

The safety requirement currently for YYC aircraft is to divert 15 degrees from each other to ensure aircraft don't collide. The change will reduce that requirement to 10 degrees.

Haven't seen anything official for changes, but it could happen like the article says. Another thing to consider is the nearly constant 20-30 knot wind from the west that is 1000 feet up and makes departing aircraft drift like crazy. We have to correct the west runway for drift constantly so they don't drift into the departure path of the east runway. We do it almost daily on the 35's, less so on the 17's.

I used to live in Inglewood which is about 4 Nautical Miles south of the threshold of 35L. The only aircraft I ever heard was Cargolux landing sometimes and Canadian North's 737-200's departing. But compared to noise from Blackfoot Trail and train noise it was a quiet whisper.

Ever get the sense noise calls were low(er) in the past because harvest hills and surrounding areas sucked it up and just accepted there'd be noise beside the airport? How about we get those residents to start calling everyday to give the airport an "atta-boy" for the subsequent decrease in noise, and for each one of those received, it should cancel out a complaint? Hell, methinks we'd end up in the black. To put it mildly, f+%k what people think, let them complain. Not very diplomatic on my behalf but I'm....so......tired......of.....whiners...... We've grown so accustomed to "what I want, I get". Boundless levels of self-importance....

Lol, a very sad one, indeed. They must've skipped the years of consultation processes put forward by the CAA and turned a deaf ear to the realtors' warnings. Again, keep in mind, this isn't the era of Rolls Royce Speys and Conways shattering the air, either.

The entitlement is truly rampant for all NIMBY's the first world over.
Perhaps we should have some real jet screamers using the new rwy to put these whiners in perspective. They may finally shut up and accept the improvements in modern engine technology after a few back to back 727's departing with the DC10 behind it even on the weekends. I believe all of these use the existing runway for the vast majority of its operations?
I know their schedules are during off hours when the new one is not in operations plus these guys don't fly on the weekends either.

I guess there was no announcement after all, or maybe there was but it is not ready to be shared..
Next time yyc does one of those public presentations at the library, you folks should come. Some of the NIMBY stories they share are head shakingly hilarious..

It sure was! But they haven't updated the chart yet.

So my calcs put December up 4.3%. Not a bad finish... Solid growth.

This is the same thing that happened when Barlow closed, the CAA had be completely open with their plans if one bothered to look, but the folks south (and the CoC) got caught with their pants down on the tunnel. Why, because we can't understand a future threat only the one that smacks on the face (see climate change for more proof).

My neighbor, in Inglewood, complained about all this extra noise since the new runway opened. I wasn't going to bother explaining anything; a lot of these noise issues are psychosomatic.

Too bad Canada has no equivalent to the Air National Guard to liven things up with the semi-regular afterburner takeoff.

Yep, good year indeed! New runway opens and a new milestone reached in passenger traffic! (almost 0.5M more than YUL..but who's counting?)

I wonder if we'll hit 16M in 2015, or if the economic situation will result in slow growth (below 5%) and we don't reach 16M until 2016? Will be an interesting couple years that's for sure.

Also, new carts!!

And the cargo result is decent too. Up 5.5% to 128,000 tonnes.

Oops... meant to edit and not quote myself!

This neighbor of yours, do the trains keep them up at night too?

The first time I learned about this train horn noise problem, it was some guy knocking on my door asking if I would sign a petition about it. I'm close enough to the tracks that I've been evacuated due to derailments, but I wasn't aware of the issue.

This is all tentative and through the grapevine sort of stuff, but... for summer '16:

AA 2x daily 738 DFW-YYC
AA 10x weekly 319 DFW-YEG

This has been pencilled in, as it were, with that YEG increase being more likely than the 738 returning to YYC.

Had occasion to visit YYC for the first time in about a year last night as I had to drop off the wife and son. I realize the new terminal has been u/c for quite some time now but for whatever reason this was the first time I really noticed it. I must say it looks really good from the road and now that I see it in person from that perspective I also understand how it ties in to the rest of the terminal. I don't know why but I was having hard time visualizing how everything related and it seemed awkward on paper, not so much now that I see it in person. It also looks huge. much more so that I though it would. Overall quite impressive.

The downside I guess was a lack food options post security for transborder flights last night. Talking to my wife this morning she said the only thing that was open was Starbucks. We didn't have time to eat prior to heading to the airport and the lack of food options was a bummer, especially for my 14 year old son. This was early evening and while it is the tail end of the day for transborder operations there were still 7-8 flights departing that evening so the place was not exactly deserted.
