That picture of the chicken reminds me of the Kramer turkey from Seinfeld. Wouldn't that be an awesome logo! Why not make a whole restaurant around him? There's a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant after all.
Really, that place is fucking amazing. I am going back to Montreal this weekend, and it is the first place I am going to hit. Been going there since 1969, and my family, since the place first opened in 1944.

I kind of like the Dominion logo... it's classic postwar Canada graphic design. Actually holds up quite well.
Also, I'm not crazy about the current CIBC logo either, with its generic swoopy-swoop... I much preferred the classic old design:

Used from 1966-1986. It was applied nicely by architects... I thought it looked great at the top of Tour CIBC in Montreal, and the Richardson Building in Winnipeg used to have a large sculptural sign sporting that logo right at Portage and Main.

"Swiss Chalet" outright copied the concept from the above place, which is one of a kind; established in 1944. Swiss Chalet is an even more unacceptable substitute than St. Hub. Rotisserie Chicken is a Montreal standard. Sorry Ontario, but lame chains just don't fucking come close.
Whoa Swiss is way better the St Huberts. I grew up on St Huberts. But ya both are sub par compared to other small places. FYI go to College street in Toronto and you will find rotisserie chicken places that have been open since the 60's as well that could have also inspired Swiss Chalet. I just like the St Huberts old school logo.
^ok maybe. I am not a fan of St. Hubert nor of Swiss Chalet. You are right about the small, independent local joints. there are a few Portuguese Chicken restaurants that offer excellent rotisserie chicken.

Always hated St.Hubert but always loved their logo sign.
I never liked their food and hate the dipping sauce but there is something kind of cool about the place. St.Hubert is the kind of tacky restaurant that everybody goes to whether they be the ultra urbane crowd from the Plateau to the millet gang in Longeuil. Swiss Chalet {which I also don't like but was forced there a few months ago and must confess I really liked the ribs} on the other hand is very suburban and urbanites would NEVER step foot in one.
Swiss Chalet was always one of the fancier chain restaurants here - at about the same level as the Keg. I'm not sure if we were just that classless or if they were different here. Now that we have ones with the new design, they're still popular but they've dropped down to, say, Boston Pizza/Jungle Jim's level.

They seriously were nicer than what we have here now. I'd look for a picture but the style would be outdated and hideous by today's standards, I'm sure. But back in the 80s/90s, it was a relatively fancy spot. It had the atmosphere of, say, the lobby bar at a prestigious hotel. Not Raymond's, but not Boston Pizza like it is now either.

Boston Pizza, Kelsey's, Moxie's, Milestones, Turtle Jacks (what the fuck is a turtle Jack supposed to be? Stupid name) the Keg...All overrated, all overpriced, all underwhelming. And they all look the same, and they are taking over the universe. All of them are ersatz versions of real restaurants with good food. The Miltonization of the world.

There's just something that's such a turn off about a menu that's rarely changed at a restaurant where you can reliably order the same thing to the same quality every visit. It should be a good thing - my father certainly appreciates it - but it horrifies me. I love a restaurant with daily and market features. One where you might never see again what you ordered that visit. They always tend to be more fun, no matter how cheap they are (Fixed Coffee and Baking, Mallard Cottage, etc.).
But whatever. A quick and dirty Wendy's burger is always a treat too.

Most of the Swiss Chalets I've been in in my life seemed like glorified cafeterias. I know they've redone their look but they still feel like a Boston Pizza at best to me.
Still at least a notch below what a St-Hubert feels like, and a couple below places like Bâton Rouge.

Regarding Boston Pizza, I ate there last summer for the first time in ages, and did it ever suck. Not sure if it was just this particular location or if the whole chain has gone downhill.

Same here, stopped at a London Boston Pizza location on the way back from Toronto and was horrified by the food, so sub par and freezer burnt! First time eating there and definitely the last! So disgusting, even the pizza looked horrible!

Swiss Chalet is basically a glorified cafeteria as someone pointed out, but in their defense it is good cafeteria food and most importantly, it is priced accordingly.
I'd rather eat there any day as compared to Boston Pizza which masquerades as a legit restaurant but basically sells Tim Hortons calibre frozen food at a huge markup.
I have a client who works at a Boston Pizza, and she said that basically everything was frozen and just reheated. She said couldn't understand why people would choose to eat there when there were so many better options to choose from.
