That would be quite scary yes. However, at least there is already an overpass at the CN Rail Line and Circle and no "high-speed" interaction at-grade with what only can be assumed an inflated traffic volumes at times.

I do worry however that people might start using the Willows as a short-cut causing the Willows property owners association to gate the community.

The long term build out for Rosewood is quite substantial, I'd be surprised if they built out toward Hwy 11. Reality is that people will go wherever it's built.

Costco Rumours

Okay here is a summary of all the rumours I have heard over the years.
1. Stonebridge - They even bought the land.
2. Grasswood & Highway 11
3. Near Wilson's Greenhouse
4. Rosewood - This has, by far, had the most chatter and news stories including 8 months ago or so when John Gromley "blew the lid off the rumours" that Rosewood was a done deal.
5. Clarence Ave South across from Willows.
6. ???

I did some research into Costco, there customer demographics, site selection etc. This is what I found.
1. Customer group - Small businesses, shoppers who are more affluent and higher educated.
2. Location - High visibility, good traffic access and they usually own the land.
So, what locations meet this criteria??

FYI, a second store in Kitchener Waterloo area just opened. Population 370,000.

Costco is an extremely well run and successful business. They put considerable research into store locations, the timing for building etc.

A second Costco will come but only Costco knows when and were and I doubt that has yet to be determined. They (Costco) will let us know in due time. Until then I will patiently wait for a new store while periodically cursing the old one and shrugging off the rumours.

It is too bad that Concorde couldn't have a nice downtown office, but I understand that they would rather use their existing buildings and property. I suppose that only makes sense.
That's the old Point2 location I assume. It's good office space, glad someone snagged it. It's a great location with a terrible parking lot, hopefully the new restaurant can stick

Drift Sidewalk Cafe

I heard today that Drift Sidewalk Café is now open. Located across from the Farmers' Market, it will be a great addition to Riversdale/River Landing.

Doesn't look like it. Their website says their street address is 516 Wellman Crescent, which is in Stonebridge.

saskatoon.ca updated

City has launched it's new website design.

www.saskatoon.ca

The previous design was very cumbersome and difficult to navigate, search functions were a mess, and the content was largely unstandardized.

I wonder how this one will be accepted - I personally find it needs a ton of refinement, and is visually very unappealing on a PC (way too much white space and amateur looking theming), but they have undergone an entirely new content management system, so hopefully it makes it easier to find information on city projects and developments.

So far I am not impressed.

It looks like they just populated all the new links with the old content layout. One example is the land branch and how they have organized the tender documents, they look like they are almost added as an after thought at the end of the page. I have other issues that are not making accessing assessment and other data on the site as easy for my day to day job but I am hoping these are just quirks that will be sorted out.

I really hope its still a work in progress and will gain some additional visual appeal rather than a — load of text with colorful boxes.

^ Personally I like the simple, sparing design. It's contemporary and fresh to me. I hate clutter on a webpage, and the old City website was brutal for it.

A website is a dynamic thing, so I expect it will be refined over time and content will improve now that it's been launched, the public starts using it (and comments/complains), and City Admin get a feel for how it's working for them. It could use more pictures, IMO.

For mobile devices, the new design is light-years ahead of the old one. I was in one of the early focus groups a couple of years ago, and emphasized the importance of a responsive design that would adapt to desktop and mobile browsers. Looks as if they actually listened.

I agree the website is a step forward; however, very bland. In terms of the mobile site I would prefer to be able to collapse and expand sections a bit more rather then scroll down forever (but definitely better then before). But as I mentioned I am hoping this will be just a starting point, as Echoes notes hopefully additional refinement comes.

Concepts unveiled for Saskatoon children’s museum

Design firm and museum staff seek public input during open house

Reported by François Biber, NewsTalk 650 CKOM

Feb 3, 2015

A potash-mining shaft, bridge-building and a theatre-town are just a few ideas for Saskatoon’s new Children’s Discovery Museum slated to take over the Mendel Art Gallery in 2017.

“We want to hear what would make this a kid magnet for your children and grandchildren,” executive director of the museum Dave Hunchak said.

Tuesday marked the first of two open houses on the lower level of the Mendel. The museum and Argyle Designs invited the public to come and look at conceptual designs and offer feedback on what they liked and didn’t like.

And while the Children’s Discovery Museum is still in the planning stages, Argyle Designs put together three concepts which would make up the Children’s Discovery Museum.

Beily's Closing

Beily's on 8th Street is shutting down a week from now. Fairly good location and a decent sized building. I would certainly expect to see a new restaurant or bar open up in the same place.

Good riddance to Beily's. I avoided the place at all costs.

In other restaurant news, a place called "Primal Pasta" is opening in the former Taste Legend space on 20th Street, as reported on the Wanderlust and Words blog.

Primal Pasta should be a good one. Related to the Hollows.

Post Massive grading work underway at Valley oad and Landfill.

Any news out there about what project is underway at the CN Yards Management area? This is located along Valley Road between the Landfill and Cedar Villa Road. It has been used as a snow dump but there are currently many graders and heavy trucks grading, piling and digging up the field. I pass here most days to work out of town. This is my first Post!

Welcome to the forums!

This is likely the City Maintenance yards (City Operations Centre) Phase 1 of a few I do believe.

I knew they were on the move. But wasn't sure where exactly. It would make sense and I think a great location. High dry and flat with easy access. The yards are currently only a bit north of my abode in Riversdale so will be happy to see them gone!

It will be great to have them out of downtown. A lot better for noise and traffic. Also easier for workers who work down there to commute and park.

I wish they would build a service interchange into the yards onto valley road so that eventually there may be a free flow connection from Circle Drive Valley Road interchange to highway 7. Therefore eliminating the need for a Bridge further to the south.
