I am happy that you posted your beautiful picture. I forgot how special and attractive the Farnam Block is.
It will be a real shame if another heritage building meets the wreckers ball.
Although it has seen better days, I quite like the interior of the building as well.

I've always thought that the Farnam Block would be perfect for an Old Spaghetti Factory.

well not quite, the Banks project and Pagnotta who is building it, is six days a week work, concrete is being poured every day for the length of half a day, we have been pushing there, so there is some guts out there.

RUMOUR ALERT

My girlfriend served an operator from Midtown the other night, of whom told her that both Aritzia and Michael Kors are coming to the mall.

2nd Saskatoon Costco not likely in Rosewood development
Developer says no deal with Costco for new store

CBC News

Despite hope that Saskatonians would have a second Costco location, the retail giant won't likely be moving into Rosewood.

Vancouver-based Arbutus Properties is establishing a residential and retail neighbourhood in the city's southeast. According to president Jeff Drexel, Arbutus hoped Costco would develop in the area, but he said Saskatoon is too small of a market for a second store.

"Traditionally, they just don't entertain doing more than one store in a marketplace of less than 300,000 people," he said. [...]

New joiner here.... I must say it's pretty neat having people so interested in this growth stuff, I now have a way of talking about it with other ppl lol .....

With everything that's been going on.... I've been here for 5.5 years now and I've seen a — ton of growth...especially with urban sprawl and traffic....

Why are we not building these bypasses and interchanges/ newish freeways....the way I see it... I'd rather be a city of 500,000 that had pre planned infrastructure...rather than a city of 500,000 in the midst of building. Even aside from the financial issues....thinking 40 years down the road isn't that bad of a thing. If the mayor wants to plan for a million....then we need to build for a million, not 500,000 , that number doesn't seem a good planning point..we'll be better off to build for more. Which brings me to my next question of parcel Y of riverlanding, again...money issue but were the "out and about" type of city. We need those attractions, there isn't anything really neat here that's attracting people. And if we're supposed to have a downtown plan...why haven't we gotten no better roads...transportation etc. we need to start taking control of things before issues happen.....for example...interchanges at boychuk and #16 and college mcormand should've been done now.....not waiting for 6 miles of backed up traffic

So what else could be going there that has a spot for a gas station? Would a new Superstore go in there with Independent Grocer's close by in the Lakewood development? I guess the layout could still change. Still seems weird that everyone but Costco (and this developer) is saying that's what it is.

Sometimes they need to be hush hush about the official announcement because it could affect property values in a way that might be prohibitive to the developer.

When a second Costco is built a better location would be the proposed retail development near Wilson's Greenhouse since an overpass will be built there in 2015 or 2016.

On another note, I recently spent time in downtown Calgary and Winnipeg. This city needs some skywalks. A good start would be between Midtown and Scotia Centre.

And one more note, maybe the Victory Major river landing project should be all condos instead of a hotel tower, office tower and condo tower. There is enough vacant land in the core downtown for more offices and hotels. Just build three condo towers

Bold Statement! I wouldn't count out Chandos however.

I do believe that Costco will be built at that site, but they aren't ready to commit.

Rumours of Rosewood Costco premature, company says

The StarPhoenix, January 30, 2015

Rumours that a second Costco is coming to Saskatoon have been exaggerated - at least for now.

Social media was buzzing Friday after a radio station reported that the retail giant had finalized negotiations to open a second store on the city's far east end.

Representatives from Arbutus Properties, the company negotiating with Costco, denied the report.

A spokeswoman for Arbutus confirmed the company is talking to Costco about a potential site at the Meadows Market, a retail zone in Rosewood, but insisted the negotiations are far from finalized.

Heh, the rumours that I heard is that Costco has a site, but it's not Rosewood, and they won't be going ahead with it for awhile. It's south on Clarence across from the Willows.

New steak house opens next week

By Scott Larson, The Starphoenix January 30, 2015

It's been a long 10 or so months of planning and construction for Darryl Robson, but the finish line is just around the corner.

"The days are starting to run together, but it's exciting," says Robson, the franchisee behind Saskatoon's newest restaurant - Mr Mikes SteakhouseCasual which officially opens on Monday at Grosvenor Park Centre on Eighth Street.

Mr Mikes bills itself as a casual dining restaurant/lounge featuring a 20-seat private meeting room, full bar and lounge (the urban-LODGE).

Robson said the private room is great for large groups or teams coming in where they can have their own space and television.

The menu ranges from signature steaks, Mikeburgers, salads, seafood, pastas and rice bowls, as well as appetizers and desserts. Robson said the restaurant reflects what he wants to see in a restaurant.

Concorde Group is moving their office to the corner of 8th and Circle, kinda by the jysk. Also, apparently they have secured a 'big name' chain restaurant to open up where the Asian Buffet, or Smiley's used to be located. I couldn't pry what restaurant, but something to keep an eye on I suppose.

It is too bad that Concorde couldn't have a nice downtown office, but I understand that they would rather use their existing buildings and property. I suppose that only makes sense.

In the long term for Costco - this would be a more strategic location for Costco, however traffic on Clarence could be pretty scary.

There's a quick update on the downtown office market from this article:

Retail space still in demand, Colliers says

By Scott Larson, The StarPhoenix February 3, 2015

Quote:
[....]

The report said there will be limited development in 2015 in the central business district, though Colliers does anticipate one of the proposed office developments will be announced this year.

Proposed developments include North Prairie Developments Ltd.'s City Centre Tower Project on Third Avenue, The Yellow Quill First Nation's plans to build an office building on Fourth Avenue and Triovest Realty Advisors' plans for an office building at River Centre office.

"We don't know who that is at this point," McClocklin said.

"Yellow Quill has been working hard to move forward. River Landing Triovest people have been working hard, so we think someone might step forward this year."
