One of the best shot of Toronto I've ever seen. By far the best skyline in the country.

#5 in that set of Toronto pics is awesome. Shows the incredible skyline growth over the last few years, a far cry from the old days when the bank towers appeared like a few towers in a sea of low and midrises...now the highrises are everywhere. The changes are nearly unbelievable. And the new Liebeskind tower looks terrific.

I like the tricycle planter.

In all seriousness though this is almost too perfect and looks like a Matte painting from a movie. Incredible!

Those Ward's Island cottages might just be the greatest "have your cake and eat it too" neighbourhood arrangement in the entire country.

You get to live on a bucolic island as if you were in cottage country, while being a 15 minute, traffic-free ferry ride away from the Financial District. You also get to stare at this magnificent skyline while you BBQ from your porch.

Living there comes with a price, though: but not a market-determined price. When a property becomes available, the City gives it to the next person on a waiting list for a fixed price. That list, however, is so long that you may never ever get to live on the island.

So, instead of going to the richest person, it goes to the person who got their first, and the odds of the average person getting to live on the island would be about the same in the end (i.e. essentially zero). I'm not sure which is more "fair", but if the Islands were open to the free market, chances are that all of those cottages would have been razed to make way for some 20,000 square foot McMansion that some 0.001 percenter spends 0.001% of his time in. So, in the end, I guess this is a better arrangement.

That doesn't stop the lucky few Islanders from being the most entitled NIMBYs, though.

I May be a bit biased & I know how many people in Canada/ US & the world over that like Seattle's Skyline & Rank it Highly but it has many many flaws Calgary's overall doesn't, Its beautiful don't get me wrong, but the distance between the Space Needle & Seattle's other buildings are very deceiving & given the proper angle, this can make the Seattle Skyline seem rather lacking in certain area's where the Gap of space becomes more apparent, I think from its best Angle Seattle has Calgary beat, but overall Calgary comes out on top as it has more buildings closer together & looks slightly better than Seattle does from many different angles.

Seattle:

See! Even Toronto better makes up with this Discrepancy better than Seattle (with mid to low rises) Seattle just needs more densification over the decades & needs a much bigger population overall I think
before it can start filling those holes.

Back to skylines now please.
Yeah you do have a point though, but Calgary's CBD is stricking larger than Pittsburgh's though, not so sure about Seattle because of the Gap I just pointed out but I think they are similar,
Calgary in my mind has few to no holes (& even from Angle's that make it look Smaller u get a different feel of the Skyline & sometimes the Rockies behind it too).

I'm still of the belief that natural setting is something different though. Which is why I wouldn't rank Vancouver high because of its surroundings. I would judge it on it's height, density, balance, architecture, shape etc.

And Canada's #2 is definitely subjective as evident by your post. You state Vancouver's "same color buildings" as a plus.. well that's probably the one thing I hate about Vancouver the most lol.
Yeah but Vancouver has Angle's that make it look like its Toronto or Manhattan, u just can't say that about Calgary or Montreal, (though obviously smaller than the 1st two I mentioned Vancouver Pulls Massively for its weight just like Calgary does for its weight, I figured that was fairly apparent giving the number of high rises) Heck I may even go as far as saying Vancouver's Skyline is better than San Francisco's.

Sugar Plants add an incredible layer of urbanism to this photo (wtr that is suppose to mean.) I mean, it just make the city look very industrial.

Think Redpath will stick around a while yet unless it blows up. The alternative is to build another expensive plant in the region or move operations to a US plant and truck in the huge amounts of sugar Toronto's industries go through.

Yep.

Also keep in mind Redpath uses actual sugarcane from South America, whereas most US sugar is based from sugar beets. Which are a highly inferior form of sugar only used because of agricultural subsidies. Redpath is a huge boon for Toronto's massive food processing industry and the City works with them closely to ensure the factory stays. The blast wall required by the condos to the west is a testament to this.

I hope they stay. It adds a nice edginess to the waterfront. Screw building more condos here.

Yeah, that factory adds a nice texture to the urban form in that area of Toronto.

It is funny that both Toronto and Vancouver have large sugar factories next to their downtowns.

The Vancouver one also refines imported sugar cane.
