If I believed that this move would actually result in a heavy rail MARTA line to the NW ending in Marietta or Kennesaw, I would be enthusiastic. IMO that possibility is decades away. I, for one, would not battle rush hour perimeter traffic on the northside to get to a 7:30 Braves game. It will be most interesting to follow the attendance at the new stadium.
Agreed...I frankly hope that the whole thing is a bust. Not just because I live Intown and don't like that the Braves are moving, but because Cobb has handled the whole transportation aspect of the project they way they always have - a car-dominated solution, implicit in which is a desire to attract a certain demographic and keep others away. To me, the tide is changing. Jobs and population are moving near public transit. Just look at State Farm, Mercedes, NCR, Pulte Group, and half a dozen other corporate relocations in the past 3 - 5 years. Cobb and the Braves have given the old F-you to this trend and said we're here to provide a product to SUV-driving suburbanites.

People used to make fun of Atlantic Station for being "in the middle of nowhere" and "an amusement park that suburbanites can come to and pretend they're in a city." I had a good feeling about it from the beginning and tried to convince those people to look into the future a little. It's not perfect, but the developer was forward thinking and the result has been the connection of Midtown and Westside, and now an entirely new neighborhood is growing organically around it.

The only reason it feels so "far" away (if you consider half a mile far) from the core of Midtown is that the northwestern part of Midtown is still mostly vacant. Once that area fills in, it's all going to feel like one contiguous neighborhood... the bridge will always be a long block to walk, but it will be the only gap eventually.
Yeah... but they did do a really awful job connecting / integrating it into the surrounding neighborhood to the north. The only access is going down 17th practically to Northside and turning onto Bishop. If they had connected Mecaslin and Deering it would have made the whole area much more accessible and welcoming. As it is it definitely feels cut off.

The south part is much better where it hits Home Park, and as those giant holes fill in I think that part will feel pretty seamless.

Yes! I liked AS from the start, and am amused when people complain about it.

I haven't been able to find it on past pages, but does anyone know what land is being cleared for on Spring Street near 16th? I drive by everyday and suddenly dirt's being moved.

I thought Loring Heights fought hard to prevent any connections around Mecaslin (to prevent people cutting through) and wanted only to have a pedestrian bridge but because of ADA requirements building it became unfeasible as there would have to be an elevator.

I also hope as the Skyscraper area fills in that they do a bit of a better job graduating the heights so that you don't go from 400+' buildings to 2 story townhouses. They should have a set of 10-20 story buildings between the two.

I recall you are correct about Loring Heights not wanting connections. Also the hurdle of clearing double stack trains made a north connection very difficult.

Can't just make a normal street level train crossing with gates?

The movement of AJC to Cox HQ office was triggered because the building they occupied is set to be razed to make way for the High Street development. So it looks like this development might move forward in Dunwoody

I work at 500 Bishop, directly across the street from the new Heights at West Midtown project. The property next door to me is the 464 Bishop project (which I'd like to know more about...just hearing about it for the first time today).

To my knowledge, there is no such address as 490 Bishop.

As I understand it, Fuqua is developing the site of the former Siemens building on the corner of 17th St and Northside Dr. According to the plans I saw posted here, they do plan to extend Bishop St into their development, but I can't imaging they'd give it a Bishop St address when both 17th St and Northside Dr have more prestige (or name recognition or whatever you want to call it). Bishop St is currently only one block long and nobody really knows where it is.

No planning permits have been filed besides for plans to demolish. Maybe to make the site more marketable to future development?

Thanks, a logical assumption. The corner 1.78 acres is for sale, but this parcel has been for lease. It would seem that combining the two, if this is now also for sale, would make an attractive combination.

That's a pretty active railroad corridor (including Amtrak). They pretty much won't allow any more on-grade crossings because of the potential hazards they create- especially in a high-traffic area.

Take note: how many on-grade crossings can you count in the City of Atlanta

Proposed Underground Atlanta redevelopment site plan.

According to the Atlanta Business chronicle, the prospective buyer of Underground Atlanta envisions developing about 1,000 new residential units as part of his firm's redevelopment plans — including a new high-rise residential tower on Peachtree Street.. Scott Smith, CEO of WRS Inc., which has a contract to buy the 12 acres from the city of Atlanta for $25.75 million, said that when completed, WRS and its development partners will invest between $150 million to $200 million to redevelop Underground.

We now have a Porta Potty and power:

And, the utilities marked?

Any chance this is being done by AMLI by leasing this now cleared lot to host their on site HQ to build the new building across Spring St?

841 Memorial filed permits yesterday. Is there a render for this project?

Hmm yeah good point. All the ones I can think of are in the suburbs / outside 285.
