^Well, your forum name does start with a gigantic O.

Light in on fire and let a stuntman jump through it. Or sharks or something.

That said, I'd have to voice that putting public art in places where we should be focusing on the road is at best misguided and at worst contributing to distracted driving and potentially causing accidents. My vote goes for gigantic fail. Put the $400,000 into an area people might actually enjoy.

You could take off the lights if you did that.

Due to the limitations of incorporating art into a car oriented environment which is very isolated, I think they did not bad. 9 out of 10 Calgarians will tell you otherwise though. People make a big deal out of the fact that it is so simple and that it should not have cost $400k. I'll let you guys be the judge.

WTF is that thing? A giant hula hoop with antennas?

I take it by all these reactions it was a worthy contribution to this thread. There have been suggestions by some forumers to weld giant hands reaching into either side of the ring...

They are actually street lights. The entire thing is a functioning street light.

I patiently await someone with photoshop skills to do this. Hands "stretching" it.

I think the city was looking at the ability to pool the infrastructure funds into more key areas and projects. Not sure what came of it. I do agree they should focus on better areas, but seeing this giant blue ring in the middle of the prairie when you're driving into the city is surreal and kind of interesting.

It's Laval's very own Treebeard. An Ent.

Unfortunately, the Ents of London Ontario have been corrupted by the evil Witch Queen of Angmar.*

It's so obvious I can't believe I missed it. Equally hideous in its own right though. The Ent, not the real tree.

The Venetian in Edmonton. I know it's been posted before, but this spring I actually saw this beast in the flesh and it was awful. Question: Is it stick frame? In Calgary they just changed the by-law to allow wood buildings over 4 stories after banning them following a massive condo fire of 6 story wood condos in Erlton in the early 2000's.

These fugly preformed concrete blocks intended to "beautify" a really ugly part of the city as a gateway to London (Ontario) are a complete embarrassment (and one that cost $800K, also c/o the Witch Queen of Angmar)

How is that supposed to beautify that gateway? Very underwhelming and way too much money wasted! Maybe the Witch Queen of Angmar had that built to make her sacrifices to the Great Horned One!

I don't have a picture of this but in the NE of the city near the airport there is a former Tim Horton's building (the easily identifiable old variety) in front of a new Tim Horton's which has been converted into a funeral services business.

Edit: Just found this photo on their website.

It's kind of like old Pizza Huts. No matter what goes into it after the fact it's still a freaking hut!

Yeah, but the caskets smell like par-baked donuts and stale double-doubles. Roll up the coffin to win.

Maybe they also have the new Tim's behind them cater the funerals? What grieving person wouldn't want to bury their face in a box of donuts?

Nearby London International Airport. Bright lights, big city. Perhaps London Intergalatic Airport would be better.

The concrete blocks and metal trees are about as attractive as the (Former) Mayor that put them there. The Witch Queen of Angmar. Which is to say, on a ten-point scale, she rates below 1.

I was going to make a Nexus of the Universe comment about it earlier. It certainly does have a spaceship portal quality to it.
