The north end of the main floor of South Broad Plaza (across from The Diplomat) has been gutted and they've been doing work in there for at least the past couple of weeks. Anyone know what they're up to? Just renos?

Pretty significant renos. They pulled out the floor and you can see the crawlspace underneath the building.

It must be major.
A few weeks ago I observed a flashing yellow light moving around on the 5th floor, possibly a forklift. It appears that this floor was devoid of most, if not all, wall partitions.
I wonder if they have experienced some sort of structural failure?

I see there is blue fencing around an excavation at the corner of Lewvan Dr. and Gordon Rd. at the S.W. corner of the intersection. There was signage up there at one time for some sort of coffee place, maybe that's what's going in there?

I recall last year or maybe late 2013, there was an application for a condo development behind the Sask Express between lewvan and pasqua, near 15th avenue. My recollection was that the cathedral area neighbours convinced city council to turn the application down.

Now i see lots of land leveling and pilings going in.

Am i thinking of a different development or did these developers quietly sneak this one in again. I hadn't heard anything about this one in recent months.

I thought that they just forced them to add a bit more parking (so the streets wouldn't get overloaded) or something, but that on the whole, the development was approved?

If anyone from Starbucks is listening:

I know you got burnt by the unionization of the Chapters location, but that was 16 years ago. Let it go. Please ease up the restrictions on franchising locations in Regina and open up a standalone Starbucks in Grasslands. Standing in line at Chapters for 20 minutes for a cup of coffee is ridiculous and the kiosks in Safeway are a joke. All I want is to quickly grab a cup of half-decent coffee from a drive through window that's not a Tim Hortons. Is that too much to ask?

That may have been the case. All i know is there is a bunch of activity that has been going on there for the past 2-3 weeks.

I expect that Starbucks has just written Regina off.

Nothing significant has changed since this post from January 2013.

Starbucks doesn't franchise, though they do have "alliances" like Safeway. The fact locations are company-owned, makes avoiding LRB rulings virtually impossible... if Starbucks was interested in dodging them.

Man these guys really stuck their collective foot up their own rear ends. Talk about incompetence. Glad to see their proposed development isn't proceeding anytime soon..

A government-ordered inquiry has so far cost the Rural Municipality of Sherwood more than $400,000, over half of which was spent reimbursing councillors' legal fees.

Meanwhile, the 14,000-resident Wascana Village development that was at the centre of the inquiry doesn't look like it's progressing any time soon.

"Significant, additional work needs to be completed by the developer to satisfy their requirements as set out by the province," read a report presented to council

Unfortunate the RM put themselves in this mess, but that development would have been disastrous for Regina. It would have pulled a significant amount of growth from the city, pulled millions in taxes from the city, but contributed the same amount of traffic problems as a civic development would.

The project would have cost the city tens of millions in infrastructure upgrades. Maybe in twenty year when Regina area is 400,000 we can look at this again, but right now it would have crippled the city.

If Starbucks was to close their only true store in Regina, and this isn't unlikely since Chapters isn't long for this world, would that have any effect? Like if it closed and they waited a year could they change anything?

Or does the labour rulings shit hang in the ether forever?
