This morning there were people test drilling in the parking lot at 20th and Sansom. I would LOVE to see that lot become something wonderful.
I mentioned on here last week that I saw a team of four guys in suits poking around the large adjacent grass lot on the NW corner of Rittenhouse Square. I bet it is related to that somehow.

Info about the Love Park redev Meeting.

Since this is new, and sort-of major, we'll talk about it on this forum. Any info after this should be posted on the General Developments forum

Midrise proposal for 2401 Washington (news has been posted but I hadn't seen the renderings before). http://www.ocfrealty.com/naked-philly/graduate-hospital/plan-for-2401-washington-comes-into-focus The design is definitely "Philly" with the generic red brick, but whatever, it's not a really big project or particularly high profile.
There has been talk about it in the General Developments thread:

Museum Towers II at 18th and Callowhill, 16 story proposal + townhomes (not a new proposal but I hadn't seen anything new on this since it was first reported last year) http://planphilly.com/articles/2014/01/0...ng-approvals-for-museum-towers-expansion I don't really get design. People will buy the townhomes with a parking garage behind it instead of a backyard? The tower looks solid.
There is a thread for this. I posted an update 1/15/2015. Here is the link:

Yep. We have updates on this project in the 1919 Market thread here:

I got a picture today of them taking soil samples in the grass lot on Walnut and just posted it in the Castleway Tower thread here:

I was at the Loews this week and noticed a tower crane appear on Tuesday towards Delaware Ave, north of Market. Maybe it was there Monday but I didn't notice it. What project is this for?

(Disclaimer) I only post rarely anymore, and call me old fashioned and being used to the old Philly development threads. (Disclaimer)

I for one like the open dialogue that this thread offers. It encompasses the large and small projects, and often has a conversational flow that the individual building threads don't have. If we start nit picking on what belongs where, I feel like that open discussion will die off. People will become weary of posting thoughts in here because it may not be the "perfect" place to discuss. Summers I appreciate all you do on making this run smoothly, but you can put my vote into the "if it's not broke don't fix it" pile. The eight previous Philly development threads have proved able to coexist while other project specific threads were created.

Who handles or changes the status of buildings in the database section? Is One Water Street under construction like it states. And it would be nice to change the Dalian on the Park (Rodin Square) from proposed to under construction.

I would like to second this sentiment.

The idea that I'd check the Philadelphia General thread to post thoughts/updates on Domus (the mid-rise in UCity) vs. the Philadelphia Major Development thread creates unnecessary confusion. Especially if I considered Domus--a large apt complex on a strategic empty lot in a growing part of the city--'major' at the time.

General was/is trending to being non-downtown (e.g. Main Line, suburban downtowns/main streets, South Jersey) development anyway, no? And if "off-brand" posts have been made in the Major thread, those were generally ignored and hence tacitly discouraged.

Feel free to PM me if I can clarify my thinking further.

^ I agree, maybe "major" causes more confusion than it solves.

Also, just in case anyone missed it, that 30th Street district page has a survey attached to solicit people's opinions about redeveloping the area:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PhillyDistrict30_Survey1

It's such a tiny link halfway down the page, I missed it totally before someone pointed it out to me. Just wanted to make sure people knew about it so they could give their input about the area without having to go there in person.

Yea, I think the complainers should just deal with the duplicate posts. I like things they way they've always operated.

I did not bring up the threads issue to complain about duplicates. I have simply been confused for a long time about where to post a story about, say, Dilworth Park vs. a cool new 8-story building. That was my question. Since there are so many duplicate posts, I thought others might be confused, too.

Changing one thread to "Major" makes me think that thread is NOT for parks and other such things. Summers (and others) are probably tired of this confusion already, so I'll leave it up to everyone else, but this naming scheme would make sense to me:

"General Thread" = Planning, parks, SEPTA, etc.
"Other Developments Thread" = Buildings not big enough to warrant their own thread.

Consider it from the perspective of a new arrival to this forum. Would he/she understand the distinction immediately? I think that should be the goal.

http://www.phillymag.com/property/2015/0...etes-biggest-issue-hudson-hotel-meeting/

All the Little Pete's lovers/haters of the Hudson hotel proposal forgot to show... as is often the case, the big issue ...parking spaces. Nothing changes!

I went. It was informative, they talked about the Drexel Innovation Center replacing the lot on JFK and the PPA building, and they talked about smaller developments. I was a bit disappointed with the person I talked too because they didn't seem to have much information about building over the railyard itself. I know that is way in the future, but to me it's the coolest part and has so much potential.

I can scan in the flyer they handed out.

EDIT: Should I post the flyer in General or Major?

Personally, I always thought that the purpose of "General" thread was to act as a repository for all the projects that do not meet the criteria to have their own threads in the Supertall Construction, Highrise Construction, or Supertall/Highrise Proposal threads.

Projects such as AQ Rittenhouse that do not meet the criteria for their own thread have a place to post construction pics and to have more ongoing discussions.

I still think we can talk about development in general, retail news, architecture, urban design, politics (to a degree), parks, transit, along with limited posts regarding these smaller projects. in this thread. They'll always be overlap and no one has ever had an issue before.

Exactly! And I have no idea what the issue is all of the sudden.

This thread is the OVERALL Philadelphia thread. Meaning, we talk about everything here, and there is always going to be overlap with this threads and others. Usually Highrises and skyscrapers that warrant their own threads, have one made for them. The General Developments thread is supposed to be for every other project. Naturally when a project is first announced, it will posted here for discussion, and then all future updates go in the General Development thread. That's usually how it has always worked and I don't really see any reason to change that.

International Architecture firm opening Philadelphia office

Quote:
HOK, an international design firm, is establishing a Philadelphia office at One Logan Square.

The company will have 40 employees and expects to grow from there, according to the office of Mayor Michael A. Nutter. A company spokesperson couldn't be reached for comment.

The firm received no financial incentives from Philadelphia though it will be eligible for the city's job creation tax credit.
