Today, EGRT is pumping water from Cecile Drive down to the bottom of Clarke Hill (to Schoolhouse Creek, so far as I can see from the road.) Pumping to lower the water table at the TBM was mentioned as a potential solution in the latest tunnel update:

The water table must have been affected by the recent rain. I wonder how that storm affected the TBM.

The wrong-railing would occur outside of all stations, so station signs wouldn't indicate whether or not they are doing it.
In order to get all Vancouver-bound trains to the same platform, yes, they would still have to wrong-rail between Lougheed and Burquitlam.

I think there is still one option that allows for no wrong railing. In Kasai's pic earlier, there is a switch from the current inbound guideway that swtiches to the side platform guideway...trains from Braid would double switch over there (think tail track VCC-Clark) to get to the side platform along with Burquitlam origin trains.

Eastbound trains would share the current centre platform, with Coquitlam bound trains using the current outbound platform. There would still be two points of head to head contact - the one west of Lougheed will always be there given the switch placement there (or rather lack of a second switch just after the first switch to eliminate this conflict). The one east of Lougheed in what I described above brings it just outside of the station, whereas the original operating plan moves that conflict further north, allowing extra headway as required...

Ahh, yes, I see what you mean.

In that scenario, the side platform would become the Vancouver-bound platform, the existing centre platform could be single-loaded or double-loaded, both eastbound to serve Burquitlam and Braid. If the centre platform is single-loaded on the south side, that eliminates the head-to-head conflict west of the station. You'd just have the single head-to-head conflict east of the station (and eliminating the conflict west of the station would probably allow flexibility - since that conflict is against combined westbound headways)

Like this - see purple (westbound) and orange (eastbound) lines:

That would simplify train movements, but also eliminates the one cross-platform transfer under the original plan and means that all transfers at Lougheed Station would be up/down transfers.
i.e. under original plan, passengers from Burquitlam going to Braid crossed the centre platform. In your scenario, that passenger would either have to ride to Production Way to do a cross platform transfer, or transfer up/down at Lougheed Station.

I guess the question is how many will transfer (cross-platform) from Burquitlam to Braid (and onwards to Columbia and Surrey) and is that worth designing the system around.

Thanks office dweller that's exactly what I was trying to say. Yeah guess you can single load it was consumed with the use of all 3 platforms. Guess they'll have to decide operationally what works best opposite original mandate. In the single load scenario the middle platform now is just a pocket track for all intent and purposes...

There's an even simpler use of Lougheed that doesn't require wrong-railing on North Road.

a) Millennium trains from Coquitlam to Vancouver use the new north platform and track.

b) Millennium trains from Vancouver to Coquitlam use the existing platform and south track.

c) Expo trains use the existing platform and middle track, and have Lougheed as their terminal station.

Expo trains can 'rest' at Lougheed without interfering with the though-traffic of the Millennium trains using the north and south tracks.

When the Expo train is ready for the trip back to Braid, New West, Metrotown and Waterfront, it just head eastwards on the middle track and through the switches back to Braid.

The switches West of Lougheed can be 'set and forget' for the Millennium trains.

The switches East of Lougheed would handle all the trains that have to change tracks (Braid to middle track and middle track to Braid for Expo trains; south track to Burquitlam for Millennium trains), but with proper train timing there shouldn't be any train interference.

This still means that anyone coming from Braid on Expo trains who has to continue westwards, and anyone from Burquitlam on Millennium trains heading to New West has to do the down/up platform shuffle.

This also makes a New West (and Surrey) to Coquitlam, or a Lougheed Highway to New West (and Surrey) transfer just a walk across the main platform.

TransitFreak's comments assumed the now assumed terminus for Expo Line being Production Way Station.

Your map above, if extended to Production Way, would have 2 different Vancouver-bound platforms.

If Expo terminates at Lougheed, as you mention, this sets up different cross-platform transfers, none of which include a transfer to Vancouver.

But as you mention, the middle track can be used to short-turn or store trains, even in TransitFreak's suggested configuration:

Noted, but my version doesn't require the merging / diverging of Expo and Millennium trains on the same tracks.
(except for the 100 feet of interlocking east of Lougheed, which is easily handled by adjusting arrival and departure times of the trains using those switches.)

I amended my post after a closer look at your diagram.
I think the difference is that the Expo Line terminus will be Production Way
(as noted in the RFEOI for new M-Line station signage, noted previously in the thread), so they will be inter-lined.

For all existing Expo Line stations, the signs read:
Expo Line Trains to Waterfront, Platform 1
Expo Line Trains to King George & Production Way−University, Platform 2

For Braid station:
Expo Line Trains to Waterfront, Platform 1
Expo Line Trains to Production Way−University, Platform 2

For all Millennium Line stations:
Millennium Line Trains to VCC–Clark, Platform 1
Millennium Line Trains to Lafarge Lake–Douglas, Platform 2

The Millennium Line signage seems like some bad copy and paste jobs, as the sign texts for Lougheed, Production, and Sapperton is exactly the same as other stations...

Fleshing this out further, if Millennium trains to VCC-Vancouver and Expo Trains to Production -SFU are on separate tracks at Lougheed, then for people actually needing to exit at Production -SFU, the issue for them is which westbound train is less crowded right now - which would only matter to people arriving at Lougheed by bus or other means (since people already on westbound Expo or Millennium trains will just stay on to Production).

With apologies to Frost ...
"I came to Lougheed Station
and saw two trains to SFU,
and I,
I took took the one less crowded,
And that has made all the difference."

3.0 SYSTEMS
3.1 Evergreen Project
3.1.1 The Evergreen Project will extend the existing SkyTrain network (the Evergreen Extension) by 11 km from the existing
Millennium Line at Lougheed Town Centre Station in Burnaby, through Port Moody, to Coquitlam. The Province of
British Columbia (the “Province”) is undertaking the Evergreen Project and has awarded a contract to EGRT
Construction, a consortium led by SNC-Lavalin, to design, build and finance the Evergreen Extension. The Evergreen
Extension will be complete and in service in the summer of 2016.
3.1.2 Certain head-end and wayside equipment used on the existing SkyTrain network (i.e., Expo Line and Millennium Line)
has reached the end of its design life or service life and is no longer commercially available. It is TransLink’s
responsibility to replace this obsolete equipment with current generation equipment in order to support new Evergreen
Extension Systems. This process is underway.

3.1.3 TransLink is also responsible for integrating the new head-end equipment with Evergreen Extension equipment and
needs system engineering support for the integration and safety assurance of these Systems.
3.2 Systems engineering services may be required for Evergreen Extension systems (the “Systems”) including, but not limited to:
3.2.1 Tunnel / Emergency Ventilation System (TVS)
3.2.2 Fire and Life Safety System (FLSS), including Emergency Telephones (ETELs)
3.2.3 Wayside Monitoring and Control System (WMS)
3.2.4 Station Entrance Emergency Information Panel (SEEIP)
3.2.5 HVAC Direct Digital Control (DDC)
3.2.6 Vehicles (COMMS hardware and software)
3.2.7 Passenger Information / Platform Information Display System (PIDS)
3.2.8 Video Surveillance
3.2.9 Trainway / Trackway Intrusion Detection System (TIDS)
3.2.10 Tunnel Intrusion / Guideway Intrusion Monitoring System (GIMS)
3.3 The TVS and FLSS are monitored and controlled by a common head-end called the FLSS Central Supervising Station (CSS).
3.4 The TIDS is monitored and controlled by a new central Server and Workstations provided by EGRT at the OMC. However,
TIDS alarms are also monitored by the CSS head-end.
3.5 The GIMS is embedded in the WMS and therefore uses the WMS head-end.
3.6 The SEEIP and PIDS are monitored by a common head-end

Expo Line to Production Way - University sounds like a bad idea.

I can see me having this conversation multiple times:

They will ask "Where is the Millennium line?"

I will reply, "It's now the Expo Line to Production Way."

"Where the fuck is Production Way?"

Me, "Burnaby."

They'll follow up with "Isn't that in Surrey on the Expo line next to the University?"

Me, "No, that's Gateway, and the University is at Central City."

"Where in Burnaby is it then?"

Me, "It's in the middle of no where, next to nothing of any significance."

Them, "So I ride the train to there to switch to the Evergreen line to get to Port Moody."

"No, there is no Evergreen line"

"Quit being an ass hole! Where did all that money go if there is no Evergreen line?"

"No I mean it is called the Millennium line"

They will make a fist and get ready to punch me before saying, "But I thought you said it's called the Expo line now"

"No, they changed the name of where it WAS the Millennium line to the the Expo Line to Production Way - University"

"Where the fuck is the Evergreen line?"

"It's called the Millennium line to Douglas Lafarge."

"Where the fuck is that?" he says as he cocks his fist back.

"Coquitlam."

"But I'm going to fucking Port Moody, I want to go past Coquitlam."

I say "that's how you get there"

"Ok, so let me get this straight, I ride the Expo line, that was the Millennium line to Production Way where I switch to the Millennium line that was going to be the Evergreen line?"

I wince my eyes expecting a punch as I say, "Not exactly, you can switch at Lougheed Center Station."

"Fuck this, I'm driving!"

And that's the story of how I will get a black eye.
