Saw a team of four guys in suits checking out the large surface lot on the NW corner of Rittenhouse this afternoon. One of the guys *might* have been Blatstein. Looked like him anyway.

Anyone know anything about this?

Gallery Mall stores close for planned renovations
Read more at http://www.philly.com/philly/business/20...ned_renovations.html#wFwAv03PfiUhbw0L.99

* How long will the mall be closed?

A few merchants told the Daily News that Gallery I will be closed first - for two or three years, the first step in a phased renovation of the mall, which once housed 130 stores.

Well, Seattle is playing New England in the Super Bowl, that's why I said it. Maybe fight fire with fire.

That had crossed my mind, also.

Who could have predicted a couple of weeks ago that this would be what we're all talking and hearing about?

Testicular?

We all know that skyscrapers have been called phallic but this is the first time that any developer has had the cajones to actually build a tower with a pair of nuts.

Positive news on over 200 non-profit jobs to re-locate its headquarters to 4th and Market Sts and the leasing of 100k sq. ft of office space for 25years.

Main reason: lower cost of living in Philly.

Can someone explain why there is the Development Thread and the General Development Thread? Seems like a lot of redundancy between the two.

This thread is supposed to be the main overall Philadelphia thread. This is where we talk about everything from new projects, parks, transit, new restaurants and retail, jobs moving to the city, the surrounding suburban development, etc. etc.

Then thete are threads created for individual projects deemed "highrises." I like to post single threads for projects if they are at least 15 floors, or 200 feet.

The General Developments thread is supposed to be a thread where we post new developments happening in the city that are not highrises, as well as picture updates of construction on these projects (like the projects you posted above).

Photos of AQ, Study, Rodin Square, 15th and Walnut, random rowhome and tow home developments, etc are supposed to be posted in the General Developments thread. Construction picture updates aren't necessarily supposed to be posted in this thread, but they are from time to time and that's okay

Does this make sense now as to what the reasoning behind creating the General Developments thread was? Lol

I have to echo domodeez's original question on duplication of posts within general and development threads. Many times there are posts within both threads on the same exact topics (many times nothing new but just simply cut and paste). I also don't get it and the explanation from you, sommers, doesn't answer the asked question by domodeez since many times the posts are posted in both threads by you and others (look at AQ, 15/walnut....look at the history for more examples).

The explanation given doesn't clarify; however, the updates given in each thread (cut and paste or not) is appreciated by all... It just seems like there's no rhyme/reason to the general and development threads. If it's a distinction between highrise and non-highrise developments then maybe this should be called out within the thread titles (take a look at how Chicago skyscraper does it...clear distinction between highrise Construction and general development)

I'm confused by what you're confused by. Lol.

I see absolutely no difference between the Chicago General Developments thread, and the Philadelphia General Developments thread.

The Philadelphia General Developments thread is a place where we talk about new developments which are not highrises, and do not have their own individual thread, and post pictures on said developments.

The Philadelphia Development Thread IX is an overall discussion board where we talk about everything going on in Philly, from new developments to new jobs, to transit updates, etc. etc.

There are sometimes posts about CITC and other highrises posted in here, even though they have their own threads. So, I don't understand the confusion.

I'm making comparisons between the philly general AND development threads to how chicago separates general AND highrise development threads. No duplications of updates and if this happens, moderators step in and re-direct to the appropriate discussion thread (whether it be general, highrise development, or any other thread like transportation etc). I am not making a comparison to just Philly/Chicago "general threads".

I'm simply echoing domodeez's original question since there seems to be duplicate posts within the Philly general AND development threads on both highrise and non-highrise topics (regardless if it's a highrise or general simply developmental topic).

Information/update is great....duplication is a challenge.
