Legacy West plans are detailed with zoning approvals

Quote:
The first 35.4-acre phase of the $2 billion project will start next month, developer Fehmi Karahan confirms.

Included in the first phase will be 784 luxury apartments, 280,000 square feet of retail and 260,000 square feet of office space.

There’s also a 300-room, $82 million Renaissance Hotel that will be built on Legacy Drive just west of the tollway.
Quote:
Legacy West’s developers are also working on plans for a high-rise condominium building that would be constructed at the north end of their mixed-use project.

Seems like Dallas really loves going for that over the top ultra corporate look/ feel...Such an unreasonably uptight city sometimes.

Well for starters this is not in Dallas and for this being a suburban development I feel that they are really trying to aim for a more urban style development with the inclusion of retail and elimination of the surface parking lots that are usually prominent in these types of developments, plus there's the additional condo tower which will bring some permanent residents to the development so I don't agree with the 'over the top corporate feel' and if so what should they have done differently?

I think it will have a nice modern feel to it. A lot of the new mixed use developments in Plano, Frisco and Richardson look very clean and modern.

Unbelievable the bad rap Dallas still gets from some quarters. It's not stuffy and uptight. And it did not kill JFK.

I don't just mean Plano or Las Colinas, I mean alot of office projects some apts included ( I've been a resident for 7 yrs) so I'm not making assumptions or going off reps. Just feel like in some ways alot of the new stuff going up is uninspired but that's not just a Dallas thing sheesh LA is getting stuff like that too & FWIW. NYC too. But for Dallas' case it just feels overly corporate/ sterile in many new areas/ developments just my opinion!

Well, that is Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and other northern suburbs for you. Sprawl, office parks, and utopian-type subdivisions, but I can't hate of some of the new/newer developments that at least attempt some form of urbanity.

I agree 100%, I just can't see where the disappointment for this development is coming from, they are making a decent attempt at a vibrant urban development. In the suburbs at that. If anything this development is a good sign of developers stepping away from the typical dry suburban style office parks. What some people fail to understand is there really is no such thing as perfect, something can always be changed to make something better.

Count me in as a a former Plano, Mckinney, Frisco hater. With their latest developments however, they are making a smooth and quick transition from suburb to urban cities. They seem to have adopted the suburban lifestyle temporarily only. That is the mistake that many suburbs make (including some older ones in DFW), they appease to suburbanite residents instead of increasing their tax base and continue to grow. The northern Dallas suburbs seem to not give a ****. They want to be 2nd to nobody and are earning my respect.

Your first look at new facility the Dallas Holocaust Museum hopes to build in West End

Quote:
The Dallas Holocaust Museum is hoping to build a new permanent home in the West End that will allow it to expand its exhibits — and its mission.
Quote:
A new home has already been picked out and purchased — a parcel of land bound by Ross Avenue, Houston Street, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit light-rail tracks and Record Street, across from its current 6,000-square-foot home. That land was bought last year, says Higgins.

Would you say the northern suburbs are going through a major transformation or not just yet?

The rumor has been that it will be mixed use and include a Westin hotel. After the Westin left the Plaza of the America's location they haven't had a presence downtown, so that may be true. We shall see tomorrow.

It'll be nice to see what recladding OMP gets because it's one of the biggest snoozes in the skyline. Thankfully it's not highly visible from most angles except from the the south or southeast.

Dallas named as 1 of 5 key emerging U.S. high technology hubs
Emerging? Yeah, maybe in 1978.

Dallas was one of the birthplaces of, lets see, the integrated circuit itself, mass market calculators and early PC's, the first really good 3D first person shooter video game, multiple large tech companies in the late 1990s, etc.
