Two minor new items about general delaware waterfront development i would like feedback on:
1. Hyatt Regency Penn's Landing is rebranding to Hilton. I guess it's a good thing since they will pump some money into renovations. I have always preferred Hyatt over Hilton, however.

2. DRPA sells River Link Ferry to DRWC and CFP - think this is good since DRWC is doing a great job with SSHP, and winterfest, etc.

One last thing does anyone know if water taxi service will start on the delaware this year? It was proposed to start last year. The docks were constructed last spring.

Target aiming to build small Center City stores

For years, landlords tried to coax Target to open one of its big-box stores in the heart of Philadelphia. Each time they failed, daunted by the difficulty of plunking a store the size of two football fields into a packed downtown.

That chase appears to have come to an end, with a much smaller version called Target Express now looking to make a splash at multiple locations in the hottest pockets of redevelopment near Philadelphia's core.

Target Corp., is hunting for lease deals in Center City and University City to build what could be as many as four of the new stores, which are about one-sixth the size of a suburban Target.

The goal is to bring the brand to the very Baby Boomers and young professionals who became loyal customers in the suburbs, but who increasingly are moving into resurgent central Philadelphia.

They've also been fussing with some type of metal structure on the top of the roof and there are a few wooden 'windows' at parts near the top that need to be replaced with glass. I drive past this building most every day to get on an off I-76 to get to and from work.

I agree, it looks significantly better, but I still don't think it belongs there. And I'm by no means a NIMBY...I'm probably in favor of 85-90% of proposed development that I've seen, so long as it makes sense in an urban context and is well designed.

Im thinking they will put one in East Market or in the chestnut street project. Both will have more than enough retial space for such a store, and it will be modern retail space.

3rd&Brown Can you give an example of what you would envision as appropriate for that site? [Please don't read my 'tone' as contentious - I am legitimately curious]

I think that site is currently a huge eyesore and this new design looks simple without being bland and should provide a neutral, non-offensive backdrop to the Rodin Museum from the Parkway.

^^^When I walked by a few weeks ago, the 8th street signage (supports, etc) was not built. Are they scrapping the 8th street plans?

Or are they just testing on 7th and will build out 8th once satisfied?

Should look really cool at night.

For 100+ apartments and just a $24million budget--my guess is that "conceptual" rendering is the BEST this thing will ever look.
