Nice. What is the purple one at the top a bit away from everything else? And the one at the bottom of the map?

New Temple buildings (Morgan Hall, Science Education and Research Center) at the top, Blatstein's Broad and Washington proposal at the bottom.

Not sure about the " purple " one at the top .... I think the one at the bottom of
the page is the Broad & Washington proposal . If it finishes out looking like Mappy's rendering , it will be a damn nice addition .

Happy New Years - guys and gals. I've enjoyed reading and viewing all of your posts and pics this year.

Lots to be excited for in the coming 2015 - as CITC and FMC rise,
and hopefully W and SLS begin.

And then there's:

Driving into town late the other night, I was disappointed, when looking for Evo, to learn that I could barely even see the structure on the nighttime skyline--almost completely drowned out by the light pollution from Cira Centre. Does anyone know if there are crown lighting plans for Evo?

With the fractional cost of LEDs nowadays it seems absurd to not add some sort of flourish or light pop. Even just a few slanted tubes in line with the roof's profile would help define the building and add some excitement to our nighttime skyline.

I asked that question awhile ago but it was ignored. There is a white tube that runs all the way around several feet below the top of the structure. I'm anticipating that's a light display, but not sure.

We can hope. The building's not done. They've also been fussing with some type of metal structure on the top of the roof and there are a few wooden 'windows' at parts near the top that need to be replaced with glass. I drive past this building most every day to get on an off I-76 to get to and from work.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Thinking back, 2014 was a pretty good year in terms of Philly skyscraper action:

Five highrise projects completed
Eight u/c (including new tallest)
Three in their Demo/Prep stage

Also:
New Dilworth park
Three major retailers opening in C. City
24 Hour Weekend subway/el service
....just off the top of my head right now

I'll go out on a limb to say that this decade is shaping up to be the most skyline altering time period since the "trophy tower" era of the 80's/90's (taking into account U city, Temple, projects along the Schuylkill, S Broad, etc). This of course if everything planned right now is realized, but it's shaping up to real good so far

While we are talking about lighting. Mellon's pyramid has really stepped it's game up. It's an awesome display at night.

Yep, I'm not actually a huge fan of the Mellon building in the daytime. But it's a great sight in the sky at night.

Reading Viaduct Rail Park

According to an email to supporters of Friends of the Rail Park, Phase I of the project to create an elevated rail park on the remains of the Reading Railroad tracks is well on its way. "Designs for the first phase of the Rail Park are complete," the email reads, "construction documents are ready to bid out, a lease for Phase 1 between the Center City District (CCD) and SEPTA is being finalized, and the CCD has grant commitments in hand for nearly 50% of the expected $8.5 million in construction costs and is awaiting word on one additional grant." This first phase, the segment spanning from North Broad at Noble Street, rising up to the elevated Viaduct, and extending south towards Callowhill Street, is still slated to break ground in 2015.

I don't know if this is any way to start off a new year but , after reading an article
about some cities in other parts of the country , I remember back around 2007
or maybe '08 when Comcast was topping out .
Brad Maule had posted hundreds of pictures covering the construction and completion of that tower . That might have been " thread VII or VIII , I don't remember .
My question is , at some point , he also had a listing of how cities have changed from 1950 through ..... I guess 2010 . It showed the difference in population and what turned out to be the "big land grab " making some cities the size of , or bigger than a lot of counties between '50 and now .
I wanted to do a modern comparison to see where a city like Houston would be if it was the same land mass as Philly ...... I don't remember what the web site was
....... Any help out here ??

Speaking of building crowns, Beneficial now has their name atop 1818 Market (recently renamed Beneficial Bank Place or something like that). I first noticed it a few weeks ago. I'd guess it's on all 4 sides, though I've only had occasion to see it from the west and south.
