do we know what the exact area is that is encompassed in the purchase of underground? below is a view of the site.. I assume most of the buildings touching the brick paving are included? would be nice if they were able to put a tower where that parking lot is at bottom right

The area includes everything touching the brick roadway minus the existing hotel at the top of the image. The historic building across from the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau will be remodeled and turned into residential units from my understanding. Regarding that big parking lot, I think that is currently owned by the State (or maybe it was GSU?) and may or may not be included.

Doraville GM plant plans render

A series of parks, streams and walkways would shape the look of what the old General Motors site might look like once its redeveloped. Offices, shops and residential spaces would surround the area, which would be transformed from a vacant industrial site to a city center designed to attract visitors. The 165-acre site near Spaghetti Junction would feature a central park, a walkable tunnel from the Doraville Marta station and limited access to cars.

It's hard to not get distracted by the PDF plot stamp on the image. Whoever sent that to the AJC needs to invest in Adobe software.

Smile

It's a "rendering," not a "render."

"To render" is a verb. "Rendering" is a noun.

I see this error far too often on this forum and it drives me crazy.

The GM plant redevelopment seems a bit ambitious. I'm guessing a 20 or 30 year buildout considering the size of all those buildings. But I like the overall direction the project is going.

So the hotel that was rumored at the SE corner of 15th and West Peachtree is finally going before the DRC.

It's a Hampton in with 152 rooms on 10 floors above 8 levels of parking.

I think we can expect generally terrible architecture as it's the same people that did the dual branded hotel on 10th. At least the street level of the dual branded one isn't horrific so hopefully we at least get that.

Interesting... that part of West Peachtree could use the boost, but it will be a shame to lose yet another park. Hello, City of Atlanta... are you going to do something about this before Midtown is completely void of any greenspace?

I don't think thats a park. Google maps doesn't designate it as a park. It's just a privately owned corporate groomed walkway between parking decks. I mean I guess it looks nice but I never see people gathering there having a picnic or something.

Can the city even do anything about it?

Yeah, this area is ripe for some significant new development. I'm really hoping that Amli project across the street gets going soon so they can finally extend 15th street... I'm tired of having to cut through that parking lot. I assume they would extend it all the say to Williams right? It would greatly improve traffic at the 14th and Spring intersection if they did so... So much of that traffic on Spring is simply people trying to turn right on 14th to get to the interstate.

Regarding greenspace in the area, MARTA recently received proposals for redevelopment of the Arts Center Station and the land around it... I would expect this to have (and can confirm at least one of the proposals has) a fairly significant greenspace/public open space component.
