BMW and Volvo's current North American HQ are in New Jersey. BMW has a manufacturing facility in Greer (just outside of Greenville, SC) but it's far from being the North American HQ and would only further give them reason to move to Atlanta to compete on the same stage.

Ah. So it's just a factory up the road. Not sure why I thought it was their NA HQ.

More deets on Mercedes ATL HQ.

Biznow is reporting that, while officials with the Daimler luxury automaker stress no decision has been made, sources familiar with the company's Atlanta HQ search say Mercedes-Benz has a favored site among the contenders: Abernathy 400--the project at the corner of GA 400 and Abernathy Road. It's a move that can even fit with what Mercedes officials revealed yesterday: lease existing space for the short-term, while developing a new HQ building.Sources say Mercedes-Benz is in talks for temporary space with Cousins at Northpark Town Center, the office complex just across GA 400 on Abernathy Road that Cousins purchased this past year.In turn, Mercedes is in talks with Cousins and Ackerman to develop the planned 200k-plus SF HQ at its site, which Mercedes officials say will be completed by early 2017. That could eventually expand to a total of 500k SF in the future, sources say.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a Sandy Springs site has been selected for the project and that Atlanta beat out Tampa, Charlotte, Dallas for the prestigious relocation.

7th Midtown

I awoke to a terrible noise this morning! I look out the window and ... the Starbucks demolition has begun.

It's terrible that states are bribing companies with taxpayer dollars. Worse when you consider we need every dollar for our already inadequate infrastructure and this only adds to the problem and adds nothing to help resolve it.

I agree, but at present we don't know if "bribery" in the form of incentives was indeed involved, or how much. According to Reuters the move makes a lot of sense for reasons of logistics - Brunswick port and Tuscaloosa assembly facility, other overhead cost savings, airport, and demographics.

It unfortunately is the reality of the time in which we live-- pay to play for corporate relocations is a given if any state wants to be in the game-- and not being in the game is generally not acceptable to anyone--

huh.. wouldnt it be better to be on the other side of 400 directly adjacent to the MARTA station? the above pictured site sits on the west side of 400 and is certainly not as easy to get in and out of especially in relation to 400.

according to the Atlanta Development Map the east site ( 100 North Park ) is owned by a pension fund which is working with Hines on a proposal that has been approved to move forward with a huge mixed use project there.. maybe Hines will be or has reached out to Mercedes... because i dont know who else they had in mind for this site.

It is claimed at bizjournal that Mercedes already looked at the Hines proposal but do not want to be part of a Mixed-use development.

It toured the 15-acre former home of Gold Kist Foods in Dunwoody along Perimeter Center Parkway and Hammond Drive and close to the State Farm campus and Perimeter mall. In the past few weeks, the site became a favorite to land the company, but its connection to Perimeter Center Parkway needs transportation upgrades, a hurdle Dunwoody would have to overcome.

Mercedes considered North Park 100 in Sandy Springs, where the developer Hines had proposed a mixed-use project that could include office, retail and residential. But, the automaker preferred being the center of a suburban campus rather than part of a denser mixed-use development, even though more corporations are starting to favor that setting.

Interesting. Didn't someone recently announce a midrise apartment development behind the Houston's across the street?

If GDOT is still planning to redo Peachtree in this area they ought to get on with it.

This looks awesome!!! The area may not be extremely urban, but it's looking GREAT! And it has a very clean and safe feel when driving through there.
