I'm sure I missed a tower here or there, but you all get the idea. It's really cool seeing West Temple starting to see it's share of highrises......skyscrapers.

Well..If the blocks weren't so FREAKIN BIG, SLC would have those towers spread across numerous blocks. Many major US cities have 3 or so towers that can fill one of their blocks. (Portland can do it with one tower) Salt Lake City on the other hand...7 or so towers could fit on one of our blocks

Had a chance to be in SLC for the first time in a long time from just before Christmas to New Year's Eve. I felt like Encino Man (a reference for the old guys). What fun to see all the talked about development come to fruition, CCC and such. I'm a little taken back by the Borg Cube. Wish there were more interesting architectural points to help break up the rigid symmetry. New tower going up on Main at 2nd South. Not sure what that is. I am sure someone has some architectural renderings.

As I took sometime today to read several of the threads. I am very impressed to see the quality of the posts and the pictures in the photo bumps. You all have become very sophisticated. I also like the high level of discourse in the threads. Nice to read something that has high information value.

Best, it's great to see the stalwarts--Delts, Projects, Future Mayor, et cetera--still contributing high quality posts. Makes me almost want to move back. My two children (one in SLC and one in Phoenix) are hounding me to move closer. I currently live about an hour south of the Atlanta's Hartfield Jackson airport. Love the climate, the people, SEC football, the Braves, cotton fields and peach orchards, the low cost of living. But SLC will always be home. If you can do something about the local political climate, I'd get real serious about moving back real fast. Or if my two kids ever start families. But those changes are probably going to take some time.

In the interim, I will continue to follow your posts from afar. Thanks for all you do and the professionalism you demonstrate. RFPCME.

The building, which is actually two buildings (at 1st / main) is an office tower on the corner (http://www.111mainblog.wordpress.com) at around 380' and between it and the old Tribune building is the new Utah Performing Arts Center (now called the Eccles Center). Both are very interesting projects.

You're forgetting South Temple, 100 South, 200 South, 300 South, 400 South, 500 South, and 600 South...

You are also forgetting the phase II CCC towers on 100 S.

So add the toer next to Harmons to State Street, and then make a 100 S list and add it to that.

This is an interesting look into the Arrow Press Square building. I would love for the building to be saved and restored but given the sorry state that it is in, I doubt that will ever happen. Interesting to hear the building owners talk at the end of the video. It sounds to me like they are holding out hope of the CCH choosing their site still. Hopefully once there is an official announcement of the CCH site, these owners will be motivated to start some type of development on this valuable piece of real estate.

I know I say this every 6 months, but I really hope that with this upcoming outdoor retail show there will be some kind of CCH update or announcement. But likely, we will likely only see news stories about how the city needs more hotel rooms.

Ah the stories one could tell about that quarter block maze of buildings.

That was a cool idea the U students had called the "City Narrows" for that area,(we talked about it on the forum about five years ago) although I don't know if it would fly zoning wise---not tall enough? It's not on any corner.
That corner on that block I think screams for something MAJOR.
And I don't think the CCH is going there, not that we haven't beat that issue to death, but Prisilios spoke like it was still up in the air, which it may be, but it's not going there, pretty sure.
I'm thinking something like the City Narrows concept, except around 10-15 stories instead of just a few.
With the buildings along 1st south on the NW corner still being utilized, that creates a curious parcel to work with, unless someone or entity gathered it all together as one big development.
Another teaser site to think about.

Makid, I know you've often given us the rundown on the probable schedule with announcements, approvals and renderings on the CCH. Could you refresh my memory again on that? Also, maybe any of the latest interesting scuttlebutt that you feel safe in telling us.

Those owners in the video, to me, epitomize the slimy land banker developers that allow their properties to languish for decades. So much of the old bones of downtown are literally falling apart because greasy d-bags bought property for pennies have let it fall into disrepair and have kept it from being useful and in many cases have refused to sell opting instead to be overlords of urban decay. Arrow Press, Zephyr, Dinwoody the Broadway between Main and State, Utah Theater and Eat a Burger. Look at the back side of where the Naked Fish (Formerly Mikado) and Cafe Molisse are, the whole damn second floor looks like it is going to implode. Most of the properties I listed really aren't worth saving now but the d-bag owners are the reason. But hey, we have plenty of surface parking.

That's the sad thing about Arrow Press Square is that based on the design and history of the building it is definitely worth saving but it is in such bad repair that I don't it is feasible to do so. I don't like tearing down old buildings but I would rather them do it now that wait another 10 years and then tear it down.

I should say, I think they should tear it down now and redevelop it now instead of waiting 10 years. If it's just going to be a vacant lot I would rather have the vacant building.

Delts, last I heard the proposal was still going through the due diligence review. I would expect that as Omni is a sole owner/financier of the project that the process will be quick. By quick I do mean that I am hoping to hear that the proposal is accepted by the end of the OR Winter expo.

From there, the time frame for construction depends on site selection by Omni and purchasing the site. This process could take up 3 to 6 months. Then there is demolition of the existing structure(s) all depending on the location that is chosen.

If we get an announcement of proposal acceptance by the end of February (latest I expect), we should have groundbreaking before the end of the year.

Best case scenario though is that we have announcement of proposal acceptance with OR Winter and groundbreaking with OR Summer.

That would be about 6 months between Winter and Summer shows. That should be enough time for acquisition, planning and approvals for the hotel to begin digging the foundation with OR Summer.

Now, regarding the Arrow Press building, the video was recorded in early spring of 2014. This was before the proposal information was known. This is why I think the owners were still hopeful for selection. Of course, there is still a chance it will be selected by Omni but I rather doubt it with the meeting space requirements.

Also, for those that were shocked about only 1 proposal after all of the interest (60+ developers). This is due to some of the proposal requirements about financing, proof of recent (2 years or less) construction of hotels of equal size and the need to have it open by 2018.

Thanks for the renewed info. Makid. Also, really appreciated that last bit of a reminder of how strict they were with the developers when it came down to the final serious proposal. I'm just glad that a proven entity like Omni is putting their clout into the project. I'm sure Salt Lake's CCH success will far more resemble Denver rather than Phoenix.

I think that because of issues surrounding Denver and Phoenix CCH that the RFP process was more strict with Salt Lake.
