Hmmm.

I think it was more to ensure that those uses located in the village (not the specific operators). If they hadn't restricted the location the default would have been for them to locate on 2nd where there is higher exposure to vehicle traffic. If that had happened it would have been a missed opportunity to have a "core" for the community.

Sounds great. By the way how many floors can that empty lot in front of Mcdonalds be? Also, will the McDonalds be staying for awhile or are there plans to build a tower in front of the central? I'd doubt that they would build anything taller than the central in front of it.

It also looks like their show home is making decent progress. Can't wait to see what will be marketed.

I spoke to someone over at concert and she said that the display centre will be open before summer. They should have marketing materials ready by late spring is what she thinks.

Interesting, but I wish they'd found a way to do this without seriously restricting the retail choices in the neighbourhood.

I also wouldn't be surprised if some of this was a way to entice retail to the village before it was fully developed. "If you locate in the centre of the village, you can have a local monopoly!"

Those days are long in the past. Been a least a couple years since that store was gutted and rebuilt as a shiny new "Your Independent Grocer" which, ironically, is part of the Loblaws chain. Very nice, very busy, clean store. It's my daily shopper in fact as it's just a block away.

the 2nd phase of CONTAINERS by Rize on terminal seems to be underway. Pilling seems to be about to happen (machinery on site) and the sign says FULLY LEASED now!

Looks like sales won't start till late spring. There's so much on the market right now in that area they are probably waiting for everything else to sell in the village and at that "Central" building across the street there's over 35 units still for sale and 1 bedrooms 700 sq feet asking over $800 a square foot, yikes that's crazy, it's the Central on Main not the Shangri-La or Trump Vancouver!

good to know havent had any friends living in the west end for about 10 years no reason to run to that store, we always hated getting followed around

That's great news. The concentration of office in the general vicinity of Main Street-Science World Station is already pretty healthy and this just strengthens the node. There is also an office proposal for the site where Party Bazaar is located, though I think that is as longer-term play. The big, big question mark for the area is what will happen to the former Great Northern Railway station, adjacent to Pacific Central Station, where the new St. Paul's replacement hospital was proposed some years back by Providence Healthcare before being pushed to the back burner.

Waiting on a ~$1.5B capital injection, like a bunch of other plans. I'd say it's still a medium-long term plan until such time as the land changes hands.

St. Paul's will be a loooong way away. Well by the time they agree where to build it and the time it takes to get constructed and fully open and operational a lot of us will be in Senior's Homes by then! Just saying :roll eyes:
