To be fair, I have no idea when the concrete mat will actually be poured...there is still more work to come prior to the pour but I can't imagine it will be that long from now, can you? In my completely unprofessional and very amateur opinion, we are less than 2 weeks out. Time will tell.

One thing is for sure, it will be a lot of concrete.

I assume it's related to the volume of concrete involved. For a job this size, they probably have to essentially devote the entire output of the concrete plant to this job exclusively while this pour is occurring, not to mention the number of concrete trucks on the road and in center city required for this pour. Makes sense to start it at 1AM on a Saturday.

I'm impressed they were able to source enough to start this pour and the FMC tower's at nearly the same time.

Good point. When RWSMADCONC first posted about the FMC pour tomorrow night and the CITC pour next Friday night, I thought to myself that this must be one of the largest amounts--if not THE largest amount--of concrete ever poured in Philly at about the same time.

The "new" Comcast will run 3978 CY neat, probably more like 4100 at the end of the day. The first Comcast was about 25% bigger, and took about 10 hours with 3 pumps way back on October 1, 2005. Expect pretty much the same deal here.

I didn't express it very well, but what I meant to say was that this CITC pour, combined with the pour tomorrow night at FMC, would probably be one of the largest--if not THE largest--amounts of concrete ever poured in Philly over a period of a week or so.

We're talking about 400-500 truckloads of concrete just for this one CITC pour.

I was curious what the Convention Center expansion involved. Obviously a thin pour but on a massive scale. Apparently it was 70,000 CY of concrete overall, no details on how much per "pour" though. It's probably out there on some site for any that want to dig. :^)

According to the article in today's Inquirer the pour will be on 12/13. I remember the pour for Comcast Center back in '05 with those trucks going on into the night. I'll have to find some of my photos from back then. Philly Skyline has some as well.

im surprised no one posted the link to that article, it was very informative. Lots of interesting illustrations about the design and structure of the building.
