If we don't learn to be innovative and become risk takers our economy is in big big trouble. The protectionist walls that existed here for a century are now gone. Waiting for the US/Europe/Japan to innovate and then just copying it here isn't going to work any more.

It's not just our economy that will suffer if we don't change. Btw, you just named 2 of the most boring countries in Europe.

How did Torontonians feel about the CN Tower when it was built? Did it get instant hate like the Eiffel Tower?

I absolutely love seeing city grids like this from the air. Vancouver and Burnaby's grid looks really cool rising and falling over the hills.

There was a general excitedness around it, from my understanding. Weird, because it was a publically funded project being built by afreight rail crown corporation in the middle of a rail yard with no real business case behind it.

It's pretty weird to hear someone describe Toronto as being "a very puritanical and conservative city" considering it's one of the most socially liberal major cities on the planet.
