If you like the Oquirrhs, that's awesome. But they've been gutted to the point they're fairly dull.

Sure, there might be pockets of the range that look good - but on the whole, the area that impacts the Salt Lake Valley, they're nothing to write home about. And no, the Wasatch not existing doesn't change it. It's why I maintain SLC has a far more impressive backdrop than Boise or Denver - and it ain't because of the Oquirrhs.
...yaaawn.

Salt Lake proper actually has a pretty beat backdrop of just foothills for the most part that looks similar to Boise or Denver. It's the south end of the valley and northern Utah County that have the best...

Yup. I agree the northern mountains aren't all that impressive. Doesn't change the fact the other mountains act as a backdrop to the city. Moreover, Mt. Olympus is pretty stunning and that ain't no south valley. lol

Go take a nap, brah.

Backdrop Mountains

Whereas I do agree the foothills directly next to the city arent anything to brag about, certain angles do us justice that Denver and Boise cannot touch.

Just a quick update on occupancy in 222. They are working on the 15th floor it looks like for a new tenant. Once this is done, I think just the 14th floor will remain empty plus a little bit of space on some other floors. This should push 222 to around 90% occupancy.

They have been working on the floor for about the last week and it looks the biggest part of the work is happening now.

I think the mountain peaks near downtown are plenty stunning:

I think people overuse the term stunning. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where the doctor calls the obviously ugly baby stunning (or was it breathtaking? either way...). They're nice - but stunning? I don't get stunned when I look at 'em. I can see someone being stunned at the extent of, say, Mt. Olympus - which slope and dominance over the valley is, in fact, stunning.

I don't look at Boise's mountains and think they're stunning. Those mountains behind downtown, as well as the Oquirrhs, are similar and while a pretty backdrop - it's not a stunning backdrop.

At least, that's like my opinion, man.

My favorite angle of SLC. I bought this print. I was so excited to frame it. Unfortunately I am unable to find it. Must have been thrown away.. *cry cry*

Not sure why this view isn't photographed more often. Shows off density and height.

I don't think this particular photo shows off the hills and mountains behind Salt Lake City very well. It's too dark to distinguish many of them, for one thing.

It's hard to photograph because there isn't much elevation in that area to get a good picture of the skyline. Not sure how this guy was able to get the shot, as it's quite a bit higher from the freeway, though I guess it could've been from a helicopter.

Or he was granted access to the Welfare Square silo. That's my final guess.

Another popular way to get shots like this that seem to tall to be able to get on any structure these days is via a drone with a camera attached. I personally wish I had a drone, as I would use it to take shots of construction sites to get better angles.

Very possible, tho, the angle does look like it came from Welfare Square. I wonder if they'd grant me access? Hm...

I have to say, I'm a bit embarrassed. I tend to think I'm fairly informed about projects that are going on, proposed or even rumored but this is the first I've heard about this.

The existence of the Oquirrhs as a complement to the Wasatch helps the overall view though. As someone else mentioned above, we're surrounded by mountains on almost every side. No other metro area in the U.S. can claim that.

Don't feel too embarrass, we all only learned of this not even 48 hours ago.
