Nothing specifically, it's just another popular place like Earl's and Browns Socialhouse, all of which share the same lineage.

It's the Ikea of restaurants/lounges, overrated, average service & quality & for some odd reason some people use it as a gauge to qualify a city.

It's because it is "fancy". Rob Feenie is behind the menu, Lamborghini red leather and Warhol prints, all that. It is on top of the food "chain" so to speak, as far as Canadian restaurant chains go. I wish Regina were to get one, because it would likely be downtown and would only have a positive effect to the area.

One nice thing about Harvard is that if this gets approved I would expect to see movement or some work being done by this summer. They don't exactly drag their heels when they get items approved.

I am a heck of a lot more excited about the new independent locally owned places opening downtown, as well as the already established ones that are doing cool stuff.

There is a great community amongst the owners, and we all realize the need to work together, to be creative, and to provide a high quality UNIQUE experience.

Our interior features plenty of recovered fir from old SK grain elevators. And we are reusing brick from one of the regina public schools that was torn down (can't recall name off hand).

I wonder how many chains are doing something similar?

I wonder how many chains are advertising themselves on a forum? It's not a debate, but as I said, it would be great if Cactus Club DID come to Regina and you can't deny that. What I didn't say, because it goes without, is that it is also amazing to see the amount of local businesses opening downtown.

On that note, I only support local (and not local) businesses when I like what they offer, not solely on the fact that they are local. Same goes for music and visual arts.

But, I am definitely looking forward to trying each and every new bar/restaurant/brewery over the holidays while I'm there!

My wife and I had a couple of errands downtown this afternoon so between appointments we spent some time in a locally owned pub (Victoria's) eating an awesome food and drinking an outstanding local beer (Rebellion Belgium Wheat). Downtown is getting pretty sweet with all the new additions.

That being said, I am pretty sure Drofmab and myself will be spending a lot of time in a local taproom once it opens.

In other news the Rochdale Superstore development looks to be including a Montana's, Swiss Chalet, Greek restaurant (OPA's?), Breakfast/Lunch Restaurant (Cora's?), Take and Bake Pizza Place, Coffeehouse, Upscale Casual Restaurant (Could this be the Cactus Club?). Really, how many food places can a city support? haha

Also I heard last year that there was to be an Original Joe's going into the Northgate Mall parking lot. I just noticed on the weekend there is some construction action taking place along Albert street.

I'd have to check but I don't think it's getting than many food users.

Check the upcoming delegation by the developer on thursday evening's special council meeting. Schedule C to be exact.

I honestly wasn't intentionally promoting my business, though I will gladly admit that we rely on word of mouth/grassroots/social media marketing as opposed to the marketing I learned in university and gets pushed by the marketing firms.

I apologize if you interpreted my comment as advertising. I was referring to Malt City, the Capitol, Victorias, Crave, Flip, etc. They are doing great stuff, and were an inspiration to do my own thing. It was another poster that mentioned my brewery... and maybe that is where I overstepped by being proud of the construction we are doing that I feel is unique and adds character to our community. Again, I thought it was relevant to a forum on construction, but I apologize if you feel these comments are inappropriate, I can certainly move on and refrain if this is not within the etiquette guidelines of this forum.

I personally don't feel chains add a whole lot to any community. I felt this way long before I decided to "get in the game" myself. I realize and appreciate that other people see chains investing here a little differently.
