Lovely Quebec City shot!

QC has an amazing skyline. Its city centre is very dense, with layers and layers of building from different generations. Honestly, I don't intent to rank or have a flame war over QC, but to dismiss the skyline just shows how narrow minded people can be with their definitions.

Quebec City's skyline isn't particularly impressive from a structural standpoint, but it sure is attractive; architecturally, geographically, and compositionally.

And this is why I feel that bridges and shipping cranes really add to Vancouvers skyline (and other cities such as Halifax) In fact, I find the most interesting images of Montreal include the bridges.

if i needed, using only a skyline photo, to inform some sort of alien that there exists on earth a society called canada and that it has qualities that make it unique and different to other societies, i would show them this one.

it could be nowhere else. very few of them could truly be nowhere else, but quebec could be nowhere else.

What makes me smile in that shot is thinking that NIMBYs in the 1920s were quite opposed to the totally modern and totally out-of-scale-with-the-neighborhood Price Building, and I would bet that more or less the same thing happened as well for the very massive Château Frontenac in the century before that. And now they've become core heritage bits of the skyline, which the NIMBYs of nowadays would fight for, if any alterations were intended, instead of against, like their predecessors.

It's too bad we will never be saying that about the cities current tallest. If we could get rid of that concrete bunker the QC skyline would get a 10

Yes you will. Eventually it will be old and no one will care if it looks nice or works well it's old and it's heritage and it must be preserved. We're already seeing preserve all brutalism as heritage people on this website. Give it a decade or so and it will be seeping into the public, in 20 years it w
might well be mainstream.

I really wonder what websites like this one will think in 2030 or 2040 about all the reclads going up today. They'll probably view most of them with the horror we seem to have for reclads of the 60s and 70s.
