I didn't read the whole RFP, but looking at the map, there's just an empty space (not even parking) where Exhibition Auditorium is now. I know the L-P said it would be torn down, but that barn has had more lives than a cat. I wonder when it will actually bite the dust.

That would be great. What an eyesore. And especially since it's the first building you see when you come in the main entrance from Lewvan.

A second eventplex and the stadium should help to attract an extra convention or two with all of the buildings being connected and newer.

It should also help to alleviate indoor soccer booking schedules which I know are pretty brutal. The ex grounds are going to be a heck of a hub for activity in a couple years.

One thing I find interesting is how long this took to come to light. The request for services was done almost a month and a half ago and from the schedule, an architectural company has likely been selected. I wonder how quickly this is going to move through. Could this be open in 2017 with the new stadium?

I think I read that they want to knock down the old barns immediately after Agribition 2015.

I've been at Agribition many a time. My brother will show cattle there and those old barns are done. Brown outs are common, place has leaks everywhere and the layout is very poor. There will be few tears shed once all the old buildings are a pile of rubble.

I couldn't help notice that the new event plex 2 is approximately the same size as the existing soccer centre (don't ask me what its name is). Are you thinking this new eventplex will be a soccer ready facility or just that it will keep other exhibitions/conventions from creeping into the existing soccer centre and pushing soccer games out?

One thing that would be nice... and I think it is coming. Is a proper road connecting Lewvan Gate to Elphinstone entrance. Also that has a connection to the Princess entrance. Built to CoR street standards (30-40km/h speed limit) and proper access to parking. Of course this would be closed (or portions closed) when there are events. But the constant amount of weaving by people in that lot is amazing.

So you mean a persistent road right from Lewvan to Elphinstone that runs through the Exhibition grounds? That would be fantastic. That whole place is a mess when there are big events like Mosaic or Pats games.

I think it is a bit of both.

It looks like they want this facility to be 120,000 sq ft where the current one is 90k sq ft so it will be a bit larger and if they design it to be multipurpose where they have field turf under a removeable floor, it can either share time with the eventplex where you have soccer and a convention at the same time, multiple soccer fields going or attract larger events which need more space. The co-op centre also loses icetime to events so this should allow events to take place in eventplex 2 without losing ice time.

One other thing I noticed is the current red barn building goes past the Lewvan gate where this is set behind it and it looks like they increased parking which should help with Rider game days and with multiple events happening at the ex grounds. Not by much but it will help a bit. Overall, I think this is a good project.

I would imagine (at least I hope) they are putting some thought into the traffic and parking issues that surround the new Mosaic.

Personally, I don't think it is as big of a deal as many make it out to be. The ex grounds will have more by far more parking that any other stadium in the country. Some people are just going to get used to taking the bus to the game.

I agree, but to separate properly traffic and parking is a good idea.

Yes it is to be taken down to make way for new residential development. HOWEVER, I do see that in the plans they plan to keep the area where the actual Taylor Field is. A Park for the memories to live on.

I think he means the old Exhibition Stadium (the old hockey arena).

The old stadium was built in 1919. I remember going to watch the Pats in the 1960's when I was a youngster and even then it was in rough shape!
The Air Canada Silver Broom (Men's World Curling Championship) was held there in 1973 and I remember how they 'put lipstick on the pig'

I was hoping when I heard about the Evraz plans that it meant the barns would be replaced. Regina lost the Royal Red already. Replacing the barns would go a long way to solidifying a long term commitment with Agribition.

Does anyone think the city's talk about brownfield sites is going to do anything? These sites do need to be taken care of, but by letting these companies just walk away and hold the land unused indefinitely, it's going to be harder to fix the situation.
