Apparently the current proposal will see the demolition of a significant amount of the historic structures on site. So the community is fighting to have the proposal revamped to include less parking and adaptive re-use of all of the salvageable historic properties on site. The Calgary forum's very own DizzyEdge is part of the group trying to get the proposal re-thought.

I definitely agree that there has to be less parking. However, even if the historic structures are saved, that will mean all of the parking (35 stalls) in the front will have to stay, as that is the only area without any buildings currently.

The phase one as posted will include 4 retail units ranging in size from 1300 sf to 13 600 sf. Future phases will include residential components.

You wouldn't know it from looking at it in it's current state but I bet there are some great elements worth saving under all that sheet metal and white paint. At the very least save the chimney.

Oh wow! Where did you find that article? I had no idea that was the site in question in the development I posted! Those tall structures could be some bitchin lofts one day! The chimney definitely has to stay.

I just got lucky Googling . If anything they should try to maintain the original structures they may be left hidden under years of expansion add-ons.

That's an awful looking building. I don't care how old it is. As mentioned, there's probly lots of interesting features inside worth saving, but the building itself is depressing. Unless there's something not shown in the photo.

You can make out the original brick building in the picture, just to the lower-left of the smokestack and behind the trees. You could scrape away the rest of the lot and few would complain.

EDIT: Also, what a terrible angle. Aside from the small brick portion I just pointed out, you can't actually see the main brewery building.

The rear view of the site you see above:

Totally agreed. Their vision is to turn the area into a mini Granville Island style "district" so if they manage to successfully adaptively reuse most of these buildings, it could definitely achieve that goal. Especially if they manage to save that large 4-storey building and convert it into lofts or something.

Katz owns much of those lands as well, likely something similar to

This was previously proposed for the lands by another group, purchased by Katz.

Hume? Brokers? Seriously? No, I understand you fully. You have no clue and I'm just wasting my time.

Yes I know that the city has no teeth like Vancouver when working with developers but that shouldn't have meant Concord should just come here build as many units and buildings as they want to and cut every corner they could. Yes Liberty Village is a mess and I wouldn't touch one of the developers there buildings except for maybe urbancorp.

If you think streetcar is low quality I suggest you do a little research yourself.
As per my point about Streetcar Developments. Just watch from about 2:50min on and listen to these brokers praise this developer over and over right up until the end.

BTW, I may be new to this board but I've been reading it for months now. I've noticed you to be one of the most negative and troll like members here.
