Comrade, I definitely agree. It's a popular style of multi-family residential architecture at the moment. It is certainly not just in SLC but it would be great to see some variety. Most of the projects that I am aware of that are moving through the pipeline are pretty similar. 2 projects give me a little hope for a bit of variety. The first is the Cowboy Partners project on 200 East between 100 and 200 South. I have seen the elevations and if it's done right, I think it could look really cool and modern. The second is the Garbett Homes project west of Pioneer Park between Rio Grande and 400 West. They just applied officially for their building permit last week. I saw the elevations. It is definitely unique. I am not sure that I like it but it is different.

UTPlanner, is it the same rendering for the Garbett Homes as what is on the first page of this thread or have they changed it from that design?

Photo updates for Bridges and North Sixth. I like the look of North Sixth, it is different and the materials look good (they might be cheap, but they don't look it, lol).

I also like the look of the North Sixth development including the materials used. It's more modern looking and very different from the Bridges complex. If only it were 10 stories tall to add a bit more height and stand out from the surrounding structures.

The old Hostess Factory on North Temple was bought by a local construction company and has recently been renovated. They just unveiled the neon light upgrades to the old sign. I really like it.

Wow! I really like the industrial look. What if we gave all of north temple a pseudo industrial look like that? Think corrugated metals and old wood and polished concrete, as well as large glass.

Utah raises $413M in Q3, topping 2013

Utah companies raised $413 million in the third quarter, eclipsing 2013 totals and beating Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Virginia combined.

In Q3, Utah companies raised $413.9 million, compared to the $316.2 raised in all of 2013. This is according to The MoneyTree Report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association based on data from Thomson Reuters.

“It was a banner quarter and we are tracking for a banner year,” said Ryan Dent, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, in a phone interview. “It’s an obvious analysis that this has been an incredible year,”

So far this year Utah companies have raised $774.7 million according to the MoneyTree Report. In all of 2013 $316.2 million was raised in Utah.

“We have a strong economy specifically here in Utah and there is an entrepreneurial spirit that has bred companies that we are seeing hit the charts,” Dent said.

The state has seen several mega deals this year, with four companies raising $100 million or more. Of the top ten deals in Q3, two of them were in Utah, Dent said.

Utah is breaking personal records, heading into the fourth quarter.

“We’ve been in the top 10 (states) in dollars in each quarter this year,” Dent said. “I think we have a lot of opportunity. Q4 has been one of our better quarters on record. We are going to round out this year with a very strong year.”

Anxious to see them ToysNoiz, don't make us wait too long.

I caught this photo in the Deseret News over the weekend. I don't remember ever seeing a pic from this perspective and at also this distance. It's up to date, and gives us an idea of what the upcoming towers will add from this angle. I like it a lot, but I wish it were bigger.

The Northwest is looking pretty nice from this perspective.

Am I the only one that thinks it's seriously hilarious that a large hotel in Utah will bear the name of a Book in the Book of Mormon? Omni? Seriously, maybe they'll have the "Words of Mormon Cafe" in the lobby. I know they're not related, but it's still pretty damn funny if you ask me.

I've always thought that a Book of Mormon Hotel and Casino would be a great money maker in Vegas.... of course it'd have to be a Great and Spacious Building, with a nice wide canal separating the hotel from a fruit orchard.

I don't believe they're pronounced the same way... Omni from the Book of Mormon and Omni, meaning "combined from" as in "omnipresent."

Hopefully there will be some more good news for gateway as the convention hotel starts to take shape. At least it is some good news for Gateway though

I think there's going to be a lot of good upcoming news for the Gateway as a result of the CCH. I'm posting my little rant from earlier this morning over on the City Creek Thread to here. I thought it fit well with your post. I'm looking forward to what I think is going to be a bright future for both Gateway and City Creek.

I thought it was a pretty underwhelming article that didn't do much to excite me. I will be glad when the Megaplex updates but it doesn't sound like they are doing much but hoping new tenants show up. I wish they would work to morph it from a shopping mall into more of an entertainment district similar to Ogden and even Provo's changes at Riverwoods. Bowling? Dance club? Flowrider? Things like that would make it more of a destination in my book.
