Got to suck being Darren Wood, who did at least run something of a legit campaign:

Not only did he get fewer votes than Rebecca Pyrah (the Carleton student who appears to have run for the hell of it), he also got fewer than Robert White, of "I'll leave Ottawa if I'm not elected mayor" fame.

I'm actually quite surprised Rebecca Pyrah is in 4th place. Zero campaign, no website, no nothing. I agree with the perception that she ran just for the hell of it.

5/8 new councillors worked for and/or were endorsed by the outgoing councillor.

So other than the defeats of Clark and Hobbs, it's pretty much an all around endorsement of the status quo.

Of the 8 new councillors, I foresee all of them being integrated into Watson's shut-up-and-obey system except for Leiper and maybe Nussbaum. Some of the more shit-disturber candidates who many people thought would win, like Aubin, Cullen, and Patton, all lost.

The fears of Watson's iron handed control of council fading away are for nought.

Most notably, it appears that no new stars appeared that could be credible mayoral candidates in 2018. When combined with the insane popularity boost that Watson will get from the Confederation Line (whose ribbon is going to be cut only a few months before the election) I foresee another Watson landslide in 2018.

And if he decides not to run for a third term, whoever he endorses should win easily.

She probably benefited a bit from being the only woman in the race.

The impressiveness of Watson's victory isn't just the 76.2% vote share, he also pulled in a total of just shy of 190K votes; different race, obvi, but that's nearly 50K more votes than O'Brien did in 2006. That's a lot of votes that he can wave in the face of any councillor who gets uppity about a specific piece of the Mayor elect's program. (picture him in his snippy twitter persona: "you and your 7500 voters might think that the LRT should do X through your ward, but 189,000 people voted for me to get this project done on time and on budget, not to spend the next four years dithering and dickering about petty details." end of discussion).

Are there results by ward anywhere? I would think that most non-rural wards were extremely high for Watson, with Maguire doing best in the rural wards. The remainder IMO were probably strongest in the inner city and downtown wards, where some that think Watson isn't left wing enough may exist.
