Essentially this would be a downtown bypass where North Vancouver traffic would be funneled through to the East side. Lion's Gate would revert to a two-lane transit + cyclist/ped bridge. The road through Stanley Park could be made narrower, making the park board happy, the congestion on the Lion's gate would be eliminated by a new 4-6 lane crossing, and the traffic going through downtown to go North would bypass the core.
Pie in the Sky?

THAT was the very idea going through my mind last night!!
"Pie in the Sky?" Yes ... BUT
ONLY BEACUSE OF COST ... $$$
I have always thought that was a super, but unattainable idea, so never directly posted the suggestion.
Thank you for the backup. Super-forward thinking, if I say so myself
In fact, I was thinking; a tunnel from the Viaducts entrance, surfacing west of Denman, would be ok for now,
But there might need to be downtown acces, like southbound Howe St tunnel exit ramp, 'and a similar entrance tunnel ramp from
Seymour northbound, if you're gong to integrate it at all with CBD out >< in connecting traffic wanting to transit the city core fast.
Conversely, one can exclude it from any central city connections, and have it (temporarily I hope) emerge West of Denman onto
the LGB Causeway, and ultimately, bored deep, pref 6 lanes, going under the Narrows, surfacing in N.Van - Capilano Road?
Thirdly, it could be a direct connection, with bored tunnels starting at the Viaduct entrances, already beginning the slope down
to Stanley Park, deeper, under the inlet, and then rising to emerge at a correct place in North Van.
But the problem is, whatever variant you fall upon, it'd cost jist too damned much: $$$$$ (being a megaproject will do it every time)
