Closing Gateway Park visitor centre a mistake, employee says

The Gateway Park Information Centre is slated to close by the end of the year with the focus shifting to providing travel assistance online.

EDMONTON - Plans by Edmonton’s economic agency to close the Gateway Park visitor centre are a mistake, an employee says.
“It’s not something you think has value until you need it,” Gary Duguay said Monday.
“I can’t see how you deliver the type of service we provide without face-to-face service with people.”
The Edmonton Economic Development Corp. doesn’t intend to renew its lease Dec. 31 at the city-owned building on the Queen Elizabeth 2 Highway near Edmonton’s southern boundary.
The organization has run the centre since 2003 and spends about $360,000 a year operating it.
The 9.5-hectare property features the landmark Leduc No. 1 drilling rig that ushered in Alberta’s modern oil industry when it struck a gusher in 1947...
