I've found Winnipeg to have fairly high architectural standards. They don't build a lot of big stuff, but its usually quite well done.

I think it might be because it has the office portion on the bottom with a glass front. If you look at only the hotel portion of the one in Winnipeg, IMO it's actually worse.

Here's the Alt under construction from the Winnipeg section of the forum, that might give us a better idea of the materials.

Looks better from farther away than closer in, that's for sure.

Keep in mind that almost all..if not all of the recent architecture from Winnipeg that is good are public projects. Calgary has is getting some public projects that blow away their contemporaries from Winnipeg (Library, Cantos Museum, the Peace Bridge)

Calgary may have a lot of private sector projects that are mediocre, but Winnipeg doesn't have any private sector projects that hold a candle to many of ours, such as Telus Sky, Manulife the Bow...or even a condo tower like Colors.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a rant against, Winnipeg's an underrated city in many ways, but a few nice public sector projects doesn't make it the architecture capital of Canada IMO.

I have to say, I'm not at all a fan of the Winnipeg one. The glass wall on the lower podium is great, the rest is pretty crappy looking. It might look better when done.

I'm curious what sort of pricing 'budget' ends up being.

I just booked a hotel in Lacombe for $90 so I wouldn't expect anything like that, but $125-150 would be a reasonable 'budget' price.

Idk most of the projects she hyped before such as eau-Claire market, Telus Sky, Central library are stunners, ALT's a little basic filler, am I missing something here?

I believe Druh's hype is for another project she hinted at before this one.

It's a little bland, but considering it's a $5 rendering, there's still some hope. I'm a big fan of the windows. Other than that, it looks like something that could end up by the airport.

Yes, the one she called 'Beautacious' was for another proposal. The ALT proposal isn't beautacious, but I don't understand the hate for it. Once we see the materials then everyone will have a better idea. Also worth noting that this isn't a Le Germain hotel, it's an ALT and it looks the same as the other ones, which are no frills, budget type hotels.
