Who owns the adjacent property -- with the parking lot? Or is that part of Southwest's plot? That should be developed too.

I believe that still belongs to the province. They were talking about building a new Law Courts/Justice Center there at one point.

The webcam view does a good job of illustrating how many parking lots there are in that area. This building will break those up a lot. If something's also built one block up on the UG site someday the difference will be like night and day. The Cunard development should have a similar impact. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say that about half or more of the surface parking that existed downtown around 2000 will be gone by 2015, while the number of spaces available has probably gone up because new underground parking has gone in. Definitely a net win for the city.

I was told they are digging 50feet down from Hollis street. 30' on the back.
I think they are about half way

As usual, the biggest factor to blame for blighted ugly parking lots and empty brown lands downtown is the idiotic, lazy, feckless, Nova Scotia Provincial Government.

I mean, how many decades have these lands sat waiting for some moron politician or bureaucrat, from every party of every stripe, over at Province House or elsewhere to make a decision, that never happens.

Build courts there, fine. But if not, sell the land.

As you can see, I'm an equal opportunity polemicist against ALL Provincial Parties in Nova Scotia. All useless, feckless, spineless.
