I think it's fairly mediocre also when compared to the rest of Canada. It's the 2nd largest city but most would say 4th best skyline, well behind the top 3. It's rich history is a definite bonus, however.

I love that angle. I love how this view will be drastically changed in the next 5-10 years. Anybody have a more recent shot (the the V completed and the CHUM progressing)?

Hopefully some of the new towers going up in the west side will be visible from there!

I'll try to get an up-to-date shot in two weeks.

Holy crap, those Calgary and Edmonton pics at the top of this page are sexy as hell, I hate to say it but Calgary's definitely punching above its weight!

Also, Winnipeg has majorly upped its game in the last year or so.

Agree and Winnipeg has some very nice proposals in the works, so this skyline should be getting better and better.

How on earth is a skyline with PVM, Tour de la Bourse, Tour CIBC, Sun Life, and those gorgeous 1930s towers mediocre compared to the rest of Canada? It has a higher proportion of quality towers than any other skyline in the country. A good third of them are great.

In Toronto, I'd argue only about 10% are great. Same goes for Vancouver and Calgary.

The reason you don't see the mountains in a lot of skyline shots is that as you get closer to the downtown flood plain, the elevation drops a bit and foothills like signal hill and broadcast hill get a lot closer. There's also normally quite a bit of haze. The best days to see the Rockies are those crisp mornings in the winter.

EDIT: On another note, Brookfield Place will have a HUGE impact from this angle.
that is too far from development to be considered "east side of the city" and from that distance, downtown would be tiny with the naked eye and no zoom lens. In the developed neighbourhoods, you don't see downtown with mountains in any significant way. Perhaps there will be a good view one day when they build highrises in the east side of the city.

You call that mediocre? Well maybe against New York or Chicago but against any Canadian city Montreal still ranks right up there.

It has a far better variety of buildings than Tor/Van/Cal and the skyline is well balanced unlike Toronto's volcano shape and Vancouver table top. Montreal's skyline also hasn't fallen victim to the horrors of McDevelopment like CityPlace or Vancouver's Waterfront monotony along Georgia Street.

Montreal also has Canada's most iconic and recognizable office tower...PVM.

I would say 1000 de La Gauchetièr is the best office building in the country.

Which is the 2nd largest city in Canada? No outsider would guess the picture at the bottom.

I know you can find different angles, etc. Toronto's pic isn't 100% flattering in its own right.
