Re-clad? Nah.

If anything, a base renovation would be nice. Something like what was done with the now Key Bank Tower. That new base made me go from thinking it was a bland building, to thinking it was a nice addition to the city.

Although I think the Key bank key logo at the top makes any building better. i kinda have a thing for the color red. Always hated the dark blue beneficial life sign... ick.

Oops. Are we talking about the key bank building above the food court complex at citycreek or the one at 4th/main?

I like the 4th/main one. It looks like it's aged badly but it's a unique building and I think the base is nice.

Edits: I am really dumb. Since when has that building been the key bank building lol

I do not like the one above citycreek.

I recently acquired an interesting little tidbit from somewhere in the UK that buys and sells hotel room keys. I have no clue how it made its way over there. But they had a key for room 1205 at the international dunes in Salt Lake (now the shilo inn). Room 1205 in addition to rooms 1105 and 1106 where the rooms occupied by the David family. It was widely reported that the incident occurred in room 1105. But it has also been speculated that it was actually room 1205 in that 1105 was given as misinformation... I personally believe that 1105 was probably accurate... But 1205 was one of their rooms... So that was a key that they likely had at some point... A morbid bit of history but I'll take it!

On a sidenote I'm excited to see what they do at the outside of the building... I wonder if they will restore the original sliding glass doors that were removed by the Shilo Inn.

Have you not seen the hideous rendering from a few pages back?

I'm a bit behind... Just found it... —!!! I hope they are not serious. First of all they need to cover up the hideous cinder block. I remember them stating that the building would not look like a remodel. I just assumed that meant a dramatic change and that it would look nice. It turns out that it meant that it would still look like it needs a remodel after it's done.

So we are trading in a building with red neon lights for a red building.... Yikes. Maybe they building always should be ugly and red... To remind us of the ugly things that happened there and the blood that was spilled there.

It does kind of look like the glass doors are back... And the elevator is gone. Hopefully they replace the elevators inside because they are garbage.

I wonder why they removed the rendering from their Facebook page. They will probably just change the color or somthing.

Honestly.. I kind of hate the design... But maybe that place should have an ugly creepy looking design... It's an ugly creepy place.... They should have just ripped it down.

Goes to show... Sometimes you don't know what you've got til it's gone... And other related cliches.

I didn't think they could make the Shilo worse, but seeing the renderings, I'd prefer they just leave it as is.

I can't tell. I hate them both.

Can we just paint it with something incredibly obnoxious to garner hate for it and have it torn down?

Hey, give it a decade and then we'll be ready to give it the wrecking ball, but first let's fill in some of the parking lots.
It's hideous... But they are doing a lot more than updating the color scheme... The balconies are completely different, The front glass elevator is being removed and replaced with what looks like possible balconies for sweets or something, it looks like the first few floors are being covered with some sort of stone and above that will be stucco.

I think if they eliminated the stucco and used nicer material all the way up.. And also ditched the red... Do something a little different with the roofline... And something a little more creative with the blank wall space.... It would probably be okay.

Considering the nature of the place I think the red is a very bad color to use... I wonder if whoever designed this is even aware of what happened there :-/

Those renderings are pretty underwhelming. I hope they create something more dramatic (and taller) than that.

Where did those renderings come from? They look very conservative and typical Utah bland. These earth-tone and beige buildings are getting way out of hand.

From an earlier SLC thread, which is why I called it a photo bump

Wow. why is every one on here so negative. The photo bump pic is just to show what a hotel would look like there. So we can have an Idea. So we can imagine how it will be in the skyline. This is not official. Just enjoy it people. I would really like the hotel to be built in that area for one. I never really see the skyline from the popular Northwest angle looking south east or from 1-80 looking east. I see it from the south looking north and I would like the skyline to spread east to west and I think this would be great

Man, we really need a signature tower that stands above the rest. We are just a box skyline, seemingly all about the same height. I demand a 600 footer!
