This is the first time I've heard anyone suggest this project would draw new people into the area. Every other article I've read focuses on the people who live there and giving them access to facilities. I'm not sure what the end goal is here.

Cooper town will stretch from 9th Avenue North up to Armour Road and will extend west well beyond Pinkie Road.

Cooper town, a planned neighbourhood for 35,000 people in northwest Regina, promises some unique concepts. But the magnitude of the project also poses some unique challenges.

"It's kind of like building a small city," said Paul Moroz, general manager of Homes by Dream.

Coopertown will stretch from 9th Avenue North up to Armour Road and will extend west well beyond Pinkie Road.

The subdivision will be one of the largest new developments in Regina, but it hasn't been without its challenges.The first show homes were expected to be completed in December, but that will not happen.

Infrastructure demands prompt delays

According to the city, Regina's growth is a challenge and so is figuring out how infrastructure like roads, sewers, storm drains and water lines will be constructed

Not for a while yet. I don't think the funding is in place yet.

Does anyone know where the school in NW Regina is going? There isn't really an obvious site somewhere, is there?

I didn't realize the govt contribution had been committed in the budget. I thought they had only so far guaranteed rebuild funds like Connaught.

Willow Park Wine & Spirits will be shuttering its Alberta Street location and opening a larger shop in Grasslands by the end of 2014.

The 10,000-square-foot store will feature a testing room and educational space where classes will be held. Rosar highlighted its microbrewery beer selection and whiskey options.

A Sobeys liquor store in Rochdale has a spring 2015 opening date. The project was delayed over changes in the location, said spokeswoman Keri Scobie.

The project will mirror the Saskatoon location: 10,000 square feet with a 360-degree tasting station and a walk-in beer fridge.

There used to be space allocated for a new elementary school in Lakeridge, back in the 1990s, but obviously that didn't materialize. If I recall correctly, that space was located adjacent to where the ball diamond is now on Lakeridge Road.

The subdivision will be called Skywood. The school apparently needs to be completed by 2017. They are pushing forward with this quickly.

I don't believe there's any money in place yet for a rebuild of Connaught School. The province set aside $4 million in last March's budget to do some preliminary design work on a replacement for Connaught and three other schools: Sacred Heart in Regina, along with schools in Moose Jaw and St. Brieux.

The earliest we'll find out if a rebuild will go ahead is the March 2015 budget. And while the commitment of design money is perhaps a positive sign, I believe money has been allocated in the past for similar design work and it hasn't always resulted in a replacement school being built. With the tough weather conditions we've had this spring and summer, and the impact it's had on provincial infrastructure and the agricultural sector, and a bunch of other big projects underway, I'm not sure how flush with cash the province is going to be next budget.

Everywhere you drive in Regina these days it seems like another new hotel is being constructed.

Now we’re learning that might not even be an exaggeration.

Regina Hotel Association CEO Tracy Fahlman explained in the last 10 years the city has added roughly 1,000 more hotel rooms. In the next two years alone she said more than 800 rooms will be built. That includes about 360 in 2014 as the city welcomes three new hotels along with a big expansion to an existing hotel in the east end.

By 2016 another 450 rooms are expected.“Our city has become such a strong event destination for national, international events and conferences,” she said. “Developers are showing their confidence in our city’s ability to continue to attract major events.”

In 2013, the Queen City hosted some of the biggest events in Canada, which included the 101st Grey Cup and the Juno Awards. This past July the North American Indigenous Games came to Regina. The city is now trying to get the 2016 LPGA Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, having already put in a bid.

The Regina location won't be rebranded. It is still going to be East Side Mario's. The Saskatoon location is no more. When you search the ESM website for locations in SK only the Regina location is listed. There is signage on the fencing that I could not fully see because one of the many construction trucks was blocking it, but I could see the new ESM logo on the sign.
