Condo Le Quintessence is more high-end, but it's car-oriented. Urbania is next to a metro station. You can live in ''downtown'' Laval without a car, that was not possible 10 years ago.

The blueish green building in the middle is the hotel and residences for the Arena District... rumours have it being a J.W. Marriott...

The layout definitely reminds me of the Bosa Evolution compound in EV:

Here is the updated design for Evolution. As the cladding has been put up, it is proving to look a lot more like this than that.

This Dome project for Iqaluit was never built but it sure would have been interesting for the area.

In Ottawa the federal government has announced intentions to reboot & fast track the long-planned-but-never-happened redevelopment of Lebreton Flats next to downtown. For context, this area was originally a major industrial site but in the 1960s, the federal government, intent on de-industrializing central Ottawa, expropriated the area and levelled it. It's been a giant swath of vacant land ever since that's largely been reclaimed by nature albeit with massive soil contamination from the legacy of industrial use.

Redevelopment began in the early 2000s, but its so far been a huge flop. The easternmost area of Lebreton Flats, east of Booth Street, was sold off to Claridge Homes who have built condos there. It's quite a failure as a redevelopment, its just a bunch of condo towers with nothing else. Essentially suburban towers-in-the-park style, which is unacceptable given the proximity to downtown (literally right next to the CBD).

The NCC has thus rebooted development plans to stop the same thing from happening to the rest of the area. They want a "major institution" to anchor this redevelopment. Discussions are taking place regarding using this area for a new national science museum, as well as a possible new NHL arena.

The value of the site is huge given its proximity to the core (walking distance to Parliament Hill), and the fact that the area is soon to be the city's major transit junction (the Confederation Line passes through and the current O-Train has its terminus at the western edge of the site).

Evil Bond characterish. As much as the weather — there most of the time I prefer the current set up. nothing like walking into a 50kph wind during a blizzard in June.

And we would not have the great yellow Air Terminal, which is about to be replaced by a red terminal.

Looks interesting! Kinda looks like Montreal's Habitat 67. Hopefully we'll see better rendering soon.

^^ Very nice!! I hope everything proposed get's built. The one I'm afraid won't make it might be the "Edmontonian".... if it get's built it'll probably be shorter. IMO!

Good read, Great news. Downtown has already come a long way since I remember it 12 years ago. Back then downtown Edmonton was a joke, in a decade it will be a look like a proper large downtown.
