Second hotel for the Groupe Germain in Ottawa. Their Alt hotel is set to open on Slater Street in 2016 while their upscale Le Germain hotel will follow in 2018.

Quote:
Developers EBC, Groupe Germain, DevMcGill to build new Arts Court

The site, adjacent to the Rideau Centre, will feature the private-sector development of a 21-storey mixed-use tower at 60-70 Waller St., which will include a boutique hotel on the first 12 floors and residential condominium units on the upper floors.

The space will incorporate a 250-seat multi-purpose and film-screening room, along with a 120-seat theatre and four classrooms for the University of Ottawa. Space in Arts Court vacated by the gallery will also be repurposed and the old and new buildings will be connected on four floors.

The winning bid is a consortium of three Quebec-based firms. EBC Inc. is a construction company near Quebec City; DevMcGill is a Montreal condo developer; and Groupe Germain is a Quebec City hotel operator which, according to its website, is opening a 148-room hotel on Slater Street in 2016.

I like it! It gives James St N, Artist District, some colour and razzle-dazzle.

Cool! Looks very good. I believe there is a 2nd Germaine project somewhere in Calgary too, though I don't know if it's still active. We have a Le Germaine downtown, and I think the 2nd one was supposed to be near Stampede Park.

$150M project at Le Massif ski resort near Quebec City to create a pedestrian village with 700 habitation units. The Group is also in talks with Club Med to build a 300 rooms hotel.

It's not commy block, it will look a lot like Phase 1. Quality materials, but no glass.

I was complimenting it for not being overly glassy. Plus I like commy blocks.

Excuse you? Have you seen the end product of the previous phase?
It's the definition of a commie block. Hideous!

You need to increase your standards if you call that quality.

That is the thing, he prefers Commie-style architecture to modernity.

If that's directed at me, it's not an either or. Commie-blocks can look modern. They're a vague overall style. A solid residential building with large balconies and actual walls. Unlike a lot of things built today with postage stamp sized balconies totally exposed to the elements and messes spandrel glass walls.

And Les Condos Urbania has none of that. Laval in general is the definition of cheap, below standard condo developments.
