Agreed, great to see.

I recall many years ago flying on a wardair 747 from YYC-YYZ it had a couple runs a week on the route, along with the A310's and even the A300.

That red eye is always busy and it 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 to sleep in normal J seats. Will be nice to have pods on it. I have been avoiding the red eye to connect to South America and going through Houston just for that reason....

Any chance we see a Rouge flight to PSP this winter? WestJet- $1000+ roundtrip all winter pretty much. Guess you can charge whatever you want when there are no other options.

Chances are zero. There is a log jam for 319 transfers to rouge and the plan has been cut back by about 8 aircraft. The problem is placing that many flight attendants into rouge to account for both expansion and crew replacement.

I have however heard the majority of route transfers have all ready occurred, so it's possible PSP could be included for next year.

In case anyone was wondering it's the 788 making up a good chunk of the transpacific pull out of YVR and freeing up the 763 frames; PVG, NRT, PEK and ICN from YVR all going Dreamliner by March.

No kidding... I suspect they kill on this route, and the flights are full. They added a couple extra frequencies for this winter.

A late "throwback Thursday" photo posted on the YYC Spotters facebook page. The Cessna 172SP pictures is C-FTCG. The bird I did most of my flight training on, including my first solo. Of all my hours (~900) about 60% are probably on this bird, both as a student and instructor.

The photo shows TCG in the run-up bay just to the east of what is now runway 35L, it was always fun to be sitting there doing your run-up checks and have the airliners come by on their way to the active, even more fun when it was a heavy like the A333 pictured here, or even on one year the last of the AC 744's!

^aww, someone's feeling nostalgic.

I, however, don't miss having the Cessna's in the circuit quite as much. You can probably imagine why, though it did make for jolly good fun cramming a 172 in behind the occasional heavy (only to have tower take him out of the sequence 'cause they were going to lose their departure slot...) Poor buggers would prob get dizzy with the amount of orbiting they had to do while waiting to land.

I remember orbiting the twin stacks quite a few times, sometimes with another 172 above and below us in 500' increments.

I recall being one of those 172's, way back when I was just a wee lad. Getting pulled of the approach because there was a heavy breathing down you tail was quite the thrill for a 10 year old boy. The damn thing sure looked big as I looked out the back window at it. I'm sure it wasn't as close as it seemed and it was all fun for me. I don't think dad thought the same thing.

It's interesting how AC has turned on the utilization of their 777-200LR. PVG, SYD and HKG from YYZ are all now 77W, leaving the -200 for us to FRA, and now it will be deployed to LAX from YYZ in November. With the 77W now capable of flying AC's longest mission, what role does the 77L play going forward? Hopefully it's one that keeps her in AC colours. Someone had mentioned that they briefly saw YYC-LHR loaded with the 77L on a couple of dates in July, but that has since been reversed.

Reminds of the short lived fleet of ultra long range A340-500's that became redundant in a short amount of time. Followed by the cancelled operation of the A340-600 (one was even in full AC colours) but never delivered.

Yep, and like those 345's, I hope these stick around. I'm thinking the ridiculous CASM of the 458 seat 77W's does not bode well for her if AC compares them head-to-head...

The 77L and 77w fleets begin heavy Mtce cycle this year. The 77L goes first and their utilization is restricted to 5 airplane equivalent.

The 77L mission confusion mentioned above will be short lived. In 2016 the 2cabin 77w fleet goes from 350 seats 2 cabin to 400 seats 3 cabin, this will put back the mission purpose for each fleet type. The new seat configuration for the 77w will reintroduce range limitations.

It's also possible for the 77L to take on additional mission role. For example, the 77L could be configured for business class heavy routes to HkG, NRT, and SYD from YYZ. Expect the77w to be 35j/28Y+/340Y cabin. However the 77L could become 42j/28y+/220y. The routes mentioned above could and do sustain high level paid business class.

35/28/240 is not what I would have expected for the reconfig of the 77W, but it makes sense now that you explained. When both types first came in 07 I found it interesting that they both had 42 J seats. The pods take up like half the plane on the 77L. Presumably then, YYC-FRA 77L will be a one time thing.

British Airways’ new Dreamliner touching down in YYC
660News Staff Sep 16, 2014 07:09:12 AM

It’s being called an “unparalleled passenger experience”.

The New British Airways 787 Dreamliner will be landing in YYC Tuesday, for the first time.

The plane has three brand new cabins; including an exclusive, private area called World Traveller Plus that comes with comfy seats, meal service and a luxurious amount of leg room.

Vice President of Operations Robert Antoniuk tells 660News; even the Economy section offers something new and improved for those who choose to fly on the Dreamliner.

“Maximized leg room, loads of over-head storage for roller-bags and shopping,” Antoniuk said. “There’s a tremendous amount of bin space on this aircraft. It makes it very easy to get onboard, get yourself settled and then just really sit back, relax and enjoy the flight.”

He adds Calgary is a very important business market for British Airways, which made it a great place to introduce the Dreamliner.

It's about 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 time.

Congrats to YYC... finally!

Hopefully we will see an AC one in the not too distant future.

On its way... FL 400 just left the northern tip of Northern Ireland.. 7:13 to go!

It'll be here around 7:45, in case anyone has their cameras primed and ready...

Whole pack of spotters will be ready to go. On the Facebook page yesterday it was quite a few tributes and odes to the final 767 flight. They've been waiting for this for months.

Edit: She made it...

Down at 7:36 local. #114 off the 787 line. Outbound pushes at 10:30. I keep saying it, what a year for YYC. What else could we ask for?
