I have taken a little time to digest and ponder what we have seen and I must say that I am really impressed. I am sad that I missed out on the presentation yesterday. Everything that I have read seems to indicate that Snohetta did a fantastic job of presenting their design and really walking the audience through the design process.
The first image I saw last night was the massing image and I too thought of Noah's Arc, but I reserved judgement. I am glad that I did. I really like how things turned out.
I think that we often have a tendency to want our architechture to stand out, immediatly jump out at the observer (spires, lighting, towers, angles etc.) Often it is the simplicity and the attention to detail that really garners the spotlight. I certainly think this is the case with the new central library. It's a beautiful building, suited the site and functional at an amazing level. I really think that we have a winner!
