As far as I know there is no causal link between plans for the Evergreen Line and the Broadway station upgrades. I'm not even convinced that the Broadway upgrade will be started by the time the Evergreen line opens. Which means it's going to be a real gong show at Broadway during construction. The one saving grace is that most of the construction will be a brand new platform and overpass on the east side of the station which won't interfere with the expected high volume of traffic using the existing platform and overpass.

I thought the two were directly linked and the funding for the Evergreen line actually includes the C/B station upgrade as a package deal.

Broadway station phase 2 construction will take place between early 2015 and summer 2016. It will need to be completed in time for the Evergreen line open to handle the additional passenger volume.
Also since funding is partially provided by Federal Government's Building Canada Fund, all Expo line stations upgrade need to be completed by 2016.

1710 East Broadway (Commercial-Broadway) is scheduled for the DPB meeting September 8.

Maybe I'm just forgetting but what exactly is the deal with the 2016 deadline for projects under the Building Canada Fund?

I vaguely recall even the Evergreen Line falls under this...was this something passed on at parliament shortly after the 2008 economic crisis (i.e. stimulating the economy via large goverment projects)?

Yes, but BART has extremely low frequencies outside the main part of the line, 15 minutes during the week and 20 minutes on weekends.

And when the lines are interlined, they're all going the same direction, totally different situation from having the M-Line interlined with two separate lines which run at completely different frequencies.

I like the "Break at CO" option. It simplifies trip planning for passengers on both main lines and it would almost double frequency/service to Surrey, which is desperately needed during rush hour. Also, after having lived with the Canada Line and it's low level of interlined service late night to Richmond, I am now pretty solidly opposed to interlining. I know, first world transit problems, but it's still very frustrating to just miss a train to Richmond and have to wait nearly 20 minutes for the next train. That's simply unacceptable frequency for a rapid transit line.

Does anyone know when the Evergreen Line related upgrades to Commercial Broadway will start construction? I know this is more related to the Station upgrade thread, but the reason I am asking in here is, it doesn't seem they have very much time to have Commercial Broadway complete by the opening day of the Evergreen Line does it?

The work has started on the 10th ave side of Safeway.

The horror!

A train every ten minutes after the evening rush is over, but ONLY half of them are useful to you. Many people would say 3 trains per hour in the evening is something they dream of having.

BTW: these are not 'interlined' trains on the Canada Line, but a single transit line that has two Richmond terminals.

Interlined is how Expo trains from Waterfront - King George and Millen-vergreen trains from VCC to Waterfront work right now, where the trains on these two lines merge /diverge at Columbia. The difference is that if necessary, Millen-vergreen trains can operate independently on their line between VCC and Braid (no merge /diverge at Columbia with Expo trains) and most people wouldn't notice.

Try to run Canada Line with the No.3 Road segment separated from the rest of the line, and people will notice.

Same timeline. It now looks a bit behind schedule as the Burnaby city public hearing just finished early this month and there was some uncertainty about the new bus loop location.

I believe pre-construction preparation work has started. Outside the east station house, I can see some orange paint survey marks on the ground and even on tree branch that seems to map out the location of expanded entrance. It is a bit sad to see some of the flower trees that might need to be removed.

What about the New Westminster station renovations to fully integrate it with Plaza 88. I recall reading in the RFP for it that it was supposed to begin in July 2014.

August 28th North Road update:

They're currently in the process of improving Clarke Road from North Road to Como Lake Avenue: constructing new median islands, adding new sidewalks, installing new traffic signals at Clarke Road and Como Lake Avenue, and widening Clarke Road at Como Lake Avenue to facilitate new left turn bays and a new right turn lane from southbound Clarke onto westbound Como Lake. Burquitlam is about to look a lot better.

They've started erecting the platform shelter at Burquitlam Station:

North Road looking south. Guideway construction has reached the column directly to the left of me (just out of the picture) as you will soon see:

Across from the McDonalds:

A few snaps of the infamous curve at Lougheed:

Over White Spot:

Hopefully it won't be too loud when trains start traversing the curve, or else it'd be pretty unpleasant for diners underneath.

The other side. Notice the infamous grade differential between the tracks.

Lougheed bus loop:

Still looks a little awkward to me.

Back on North Road and Gatineau Avenue looking north. As you can see there are five column segments to go until the guideway meets up with the steel beams.

North Road at Austin Avenue looking north.

Great update, thanks.

I like the curve section, adds a little visual interest to the guideway.

I guess soon the North Road section superstructure will be complete.

Also I hope North Road gets a little more TLC and is completely re-paved. Looked a little rough in a couple of those shots.

As long as the train doesn't squeel around that corner, I think White Spot diners will be ok.

i really think the basket-weave would have looked pretty cool. in the long run it may have been a good idea to do it since there seems to be a lot of switching going on around that part. it could cause a lot of wear as time goes on. but that steal curved part does look pretty sleek.

Nice! Thanks for the pics adrianroam95! Beautiful as usual.

It looks like the gantry will be above Austin by the end of next week, and should connect above Gatineau Place three weeks from now. So it looks like EGRT is bang on when they say it will be done "late September".

The Lougheed steel guideways are looking pretty good as well. They are indeed quite sleek!

Nice update.
The curve looks good because they painted the steel a colour that matches the concrete really well.
It' looks uniform now.

Here's what's planned for the median (and which would prevent Rob Ford-esque jaywalking incidents)
- assuming it was approved:

From the webcam today -
looks like there are 2 T-shaped columns (for a switch platform?) south of Lincoln Station:

Interesting... there's no switch there, but there's also no T-shaped columns in the diagrams from http://evergreenline.gov.bc.ca/documents/Maps_Graphics/CoquitlamPinetreeAlignment.pdf
