The 800m IS the shortest walkable distance. The track distance is around 1km when measured from the centre of both platforms. Straight line distance is 700m, but the number is meanless unless you can fly...
And the population for each of the region around North Road is:
Cariboo-Burquitlam (Coquitlam, 2001): 18,845
Cameron (Burnaby, 2006): 8,255
Lyndhurst (Burnaby, 2006): 4,645
Add them all up and you get a good 32k population on the corridor.
