102 St makes infinite more sense since they will be across the street from Enbridge 2 (on 103 St) and a short walk from Enbridge 1 (pointy hat tower)

The consensus is that one if not both of those will be vacated completely, from the sounds of things

He's the short blurb that they have regarding the hotel, which they have confirmed, on the website, will be a 4-star:

Quote:

HOTEL

The Edmonton Arena District will provide a unique destination for tourists and business travellers. A new hotel with full conference facilities will allow tourists and business travellers to experience all the EAD has to offer while enjoying the luxury of an upper upscale hotel.

I heard that as well. IMO that would be the smarter thing to do as they can likely negotiate some really really great rates in existing buildings.

Wow wow...upper upscale. That would be beyond the 4* Fairmont and Westin we have now...not that Westin deserves to be a 4* with its pathetic dining room and subpar food.

/\ here's an idea, and might be far fetched, but could it be Shangri La?? Very much resembles one in the renderings and does combined hotel with a residential component.

Doesn't really matter. Most brands do not own their hotels anymore, it is the local development and ownership company that hires the hotel company to manage. Almost like how a local company hires Brad Lamb to promote and market local condo projects, but on a decade time scale. Le Germain is different I believe, but the largest hotel it owns is 167 rooms, and in total just short of 600 rooms nation wide. The renders at least have a much larger scale building going up, even if that is just speculative.

in fact we build primarily for our own portfolio and we retain ownership for the long term including epcor tower. 240glt's long term interests and ours are pretty much aligned and on the same side of the coin even if we don't completely agree on the current state of the market and where it's going in the short term.
