It sounds like that approval isn't affecting what Stantec is thinking here, but I'm somewhat surprised. If there's no hotel as rumoured then there's quite a few approved options for people looking for a new build condo in the core.

Varying levels of capability for some proposals, but there's still quite a few options.

Damn. And I've got a meeting to go to. Oh well. I will have to see what comes after.

awesome, can't wait to see the real thing! If 230m~, wouldn't be as disproportionate in the skyline as I thought.

I'd imagine it would look something like the middle finger pointed at Calgary!
more like the new devon energy tower in oklahoma city at 50 floors, 257 metres when the rest of the skyline is still a healthy mix of 16 - 36 stories.

from urbanative on wikipedia:

think muttart on the lower right and shift the location a bit and voila...

as for impact on other than the skyline, if the rumours are true and it is half residential, it's impact on our core at the street level 24/7 will be greater than this one adds to its core.

With Edmonton's new tallest and the tallest west of TO I think its time for Edmonton to start cheering loudly for itself.

This will be a bold statement. And there are going to be 2 additional towers announced in the next few months according to what I have seen.

it will be 60 stories 30 + 30.

So you are saying its more than 238 m (The Bow)? I would expect a hotel and a residential tower soon.

Iveson is going to be at the presser. I think the City is going to try to be accommodating on changing the zoning for this one. Especially considering that it is part of the Arena District, involves a very large local company's new downtown HQ, and will have a large component of residential to it.

Wow, almost twice as tall as Bell, but the tall Hotel immediately to the north (EAD's next announcment?) will ensure that it doesn't overwhelm..

Nice.

Looks good, would love to see some better renderings.

That plaza space is going to be great!
