i know the issues i have in my yard, and all my shrubs and newly planted perinials need TLC so I can't imagine what fort garry will look like in years to come.

why is it the city continues to plant tress on medians? they look ok, but almost never survive our salt/sand, car emmisions, etc. if you want to dress up a road, add fancy lampposts and some art.

I find this enraging too... The ones along Main Street between Portage and Bannatyne make me mad. Every day I walk past them at least 10 times, and every day I want to take those stupid trunk protectors off of them, but don't want to look like I'm a hobo or something. They are starting to grow around them, and it's not like any grass grows at the base -- what is the protection from if not a cord trimmer?

I thought the trunk protectors that look like drain pipe at the bottom of the trunks were for prevention of small animals eating the bark. As far as I know it was not for string trimmer protection.

if the trees are near riverbanks they are for beavers. on Earth Day this year I saved a tree by eating a beaver.

I'm blocks east of the Red River and I think the city was worried about rabbits when they planted trees on our 55 year old street in the sprint of 2013.

Have to say they did a good job of looking after them for the first year with watering them at least once a week and putting mulch etc. around them to keep the water in.

It looks like the city is changing the style of traffic light posts? The ones on Route 90 (one block past Wellington), on St James near target and Concordia hospital. They look different. No curved posts but 90 degree posts.

That's the new style they tendered for about 1 year ago, and I would bet that we are just seeing them now as they would use up the old style first.

I think they look funny. I guess I'm just not used to it. But definitely it doesn't look like Winnipeg. Here's a couple photos I took over the weekend at Concordia.

Only in Winnipeg do "we" get excited about new traffic lights. Other Cities are tearing them down for better infrastructure flows.

The "yield" signs replacing the stop signs in suburban Calgary nearly got me killed... apparently, riding your bike downhill in the NW with drivers that fly around corners at 30 without even a full stop, is perfectly allowed, even though it endangers me as a cyclist. I will be infuriated if I start seeing those in Winnipeg.

I wouldn't say that I'm "excited" about them myself, but I do appreciate the slightly more modern aesthetic. The existing ones have been around for as long as I can remember, with only minor changes through the decades.

Perhaps it would be better if drivers had to slow to a 10 km/h maximum before going through.

Speed cushions (speed bumps with widely-spaced gaps for fire trucks to use) just before the entrance to a roundabout seems to work well -- makes people a bit more willing to yield since they don't have to jam on the brakes from 40-50kph. Wish they'd try that here.

Why is dark black the new "in" color for dtwn facades? I can think of 5 new or remodeled buildings taking this approach. They may look cooler if they were lit at night!

Keeping with The Shed, does any remember a few years back there was talk that True North wanted to open parts of MTS Centre to the street and allow for some of the vendors to be open during non-event hours. Is this still a future plan?

Also, in all The SHED drawings they have the main floor of cityplace open to Hargrave with storefronts again. Is this: a) possible? b) feasible? c) still planned/realistic?
