There's a certain home-grown crowd in Manitoba as well who love to dwell on any negative stories about housing starts, job growth, etc... but anytime a positive story about those topics comes out they dismiss it as hogwash. "Negativipeg" is alive and well.

I'm a huge optimist for the city and even my expectations have been blown away in recent years. If you told me a few years ago that in 2014 we'd have 4 towers of 20+ stories going up at once downtown with even more coming down the pipeline I wouldn't have believed it. We're starting to see what's possible downtown, yet we still hear the same old pessimism and "it'll never happen" talk with regards to projects like the Forks towers.

The one in the article says it's located at the southeast corner of Westminster and Maryland. That is currently a skinny empty lot (approximately 40-feet wide along Maryland). The rendering above doesn't look to be in the right spot?

the Upper Ft. Garry site had their shrubs & grass planted late last week. they were laying the sod Friday afternoon, +35 out, i'm pretty sure that sod was dead even before it was laid. but don't worry, somehow it will be replaced next year and I'm sure the City or Province will be asked for $.

how do they plan to mow these "lawn beds" that are raised 2 ft? and maintain all the flower/shrubs, are they having a part time gardener?

I hope that most people can understand your post and realize what it means but I also believe it's a politically realted topic that should be talked about if posters choose to do so In the provincial political thread.

I'm no dipper sympathizer, but would the PCs really be any different? Where would they make cuts? I could also see them reversing the PST increase and that would only further hamper the province's ability to pay down its debts and ensure that our infrastructure continues to be woefully underfunded. Also they can't control the climate and flood costs would still be a reality.

What we really need is a government that is willing and able to stand up to the public-sector unions, but I don't think Pallister has the balls for it.

Newly laid sod should be watered daily in the summer months. This is landscaping basics.

What agreement the City or Province as you say has is unknown to me.
The Forks walkway for example is covered by 3 different entities. Harbour- Forks - Open, Parks Canada Section - 2 week wait, City of Winnipeg West stretch - Wait again.

Part time Gardener for a designated Parks Canada site, most likely.

I am glad some redevelopment is finally coming to this area. With the added bonus that I live pretty close to this spot, so the more money invested the better for me!

Seriously, it would be great for the area if both these infill developments went forward. Both mixed use also. It could really create some hustle and bustle in the area.

This is exactly what I do. Plant and design these places. I just spent 2 weeks trying to fix the mess at the CMHR. You may have seen me there I. The evenings pruning all the messed up trees. And by the sounds of it I will be replacing 37 of the 183 planted on site as the other unmentioned company did a very poor job of taking care of them. So don't expect much more from the FG site either. All trees and grass for the first year need to be watered weekly if not twice a week. You can plant grass now. The issue is that it cannot stay rolled up for more then 10 hours in this heat before it start to bake. It can turn completely brown after planting. It isn't dead. It's gone into dormancy. The trees however are the larger issue. All are wire basket trees. And this late in the season is honestly a crap shoot unless they are taken care of.
But to be honest. The city is the worst for watering. Forestry branch is a cluster of bureaucratic bs.
