That's exactly what's going to happen.

I have a feeling some people spend all their time around Peachtree or Tech Square and don't realize what a mess the rest of Midtown is. We have a long way to go before we're in a position to complain about every new development not being an architectural masterpiece. Just be glad someone like Novare is willing to do something about some of the blight.

Ga Dome site favored for big convention hotel

Behind the pay wall, the AJC is reporting that Georgia World Congress Center is planning a privately funded , 800-1,000 key hotel that would " would meet demand for accommodations closer to parts of the complex that are a hike from the nearest hotel, the Omni at CNN Center." Jennifer LeMaster, spokeswoman for the GWCC authority, said discussions about a hotel are very preliminary but the plan is to not use state tax dollars in any project that results.“Our approach is we are going to pursue a private sector development,” she said.

William Pate, president of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, said there would be more than enough business for the facility. Atlanta has 23 “citywides” — conventions that fill rooms from downtown to the Perimeter area — on the books for 2015 and he expects a 25 percent increase in convention business over the next five years.

Add to that a possible NCAA college football championship game in 2018, a Super Bowl in 2019 and a NCAA Men’s College basketball game in 2020 — all at the new stadium — and the convention center hotel makes sense, he said.

what i can't believe is that they are still not planning an east-west street between the new stadium and the GWCC, connecting andrew young international to magnolia street. even if it were just a platz for pedestrians and cyclists, it would create more connectivity to vine city and downtown than has been there in decades.

What I cannot understand is why is this article behind a pay wall. This particular development was discussed over six months ago. Well maybe not six months ago but it was a while ago. It's even the same old rendering. Maybe this is in hopes of drumming of interest from the private sector.

Some construction at John Wesley Dobbs and Randolph in O4W. Looks like additions to the existing structure. Anybody know more about this? It's not on the development map and I hadn't heard anything about it.
These are 5 new single family homes overlooking Freedom Parkway. They will be priced in the 600s.

Personally I don't mind the architecture on the majority of Novare's buildings. With that said, their Realm condo in Buckhead just screams low rent. First, the green windows look cheap. Most horrendous though, is the white stucco that is covered with mildew and looks uneven. The design of the building looks nice however.

If they've already let that thing get covered with mildew somebody should slap a code complaint on them.

I'm not an engineer or architect so I have no idea if this were feasible but could they rip up the precast concrete sections inside the Dome out and make it a hotel ala Opryland in Nashville?

They did it with the Pyramid in Memphis, it'd be nice if they could do that here although I highly doubt if it's possible.

I heard from a reliable source that 811 Peachtree is going forward; they're applying for construction permits next week. Also, apparently a Publix will take up most of retail portion.

I don't pray often, but please god let this be true.

This would add a dramatic amount of energy to that area.

YES! this is probably my favourite project in the works. while i'm not crazy about publix (their prices are high), i am glad an actual grocery store is going in rather than another boutique or ultra high end "market".

How reliable is your source? A Publix seems extremely improbable given their other store three blocks away.

I was thinking the same thing too, but if it is true it is the best news I've read on here! That Publix on Spring is such a PITA to walk to.

How long after filing for construction permits should one expect construction to start?

AmREIT Eyes High-Rise Densification of Buckhead Center

AmREIT Inc., a Houston-based REIT, is considering a high-rise redevelopment of a Buckhead shopping center it has purchased in Atlanta.Kerr Taylor, AmREIT’s Chief Executive Officer, commented, “We are very pleased with the acquisition of Tuxedo Festival – a jewel in Buckhead that epitomizes our trademark of an Irreplaceable Corner. Its location serves the most affluent Buckhead neighborhoods and some of the densest concentrations of commercial real estate in the Southeast. This exciting new investment will immediately grow cash flow and net operating income, while creating longer term opportunities to potentially capitalize on the 440,000 SF of maximum development density, which could include high rise residential, office, additional retail and parking.”

The center is located on Roswell Road, just south of Chastain Park and just north of Piedmont Center , at the intersection of Roswell Road, Piedmont Road and Old Ivy Road.

It's a pain to walk to? Why, are there moats you have to cross?

There's no way they'd build a 2nd publix so close to the existing one. So maybe they're moving it ... which would suck.

Assuming this is true, moving Publix from Plaza Midtown to 811 Peachtree would really suck for transit riders. I shop at the store because it's the closest one to MARTA's north-south line and is very convenient to my commute. 811 Peachtree would be a hassle.

Hopefully they open a second store.

Do you think they'd really move it? I doubt it. They are close to too many Tech students (direct trolley access) and 2 student housing towers are going up across the street. Tech is a pretty big market for that Publix.

No, I don't personally think it makes sense to move it at all, or build a 2nd one.
